3k miles? I would be changing my oil 13-14 times a year. Minimum 730 miles a week just for my commute. add another 80 for detours and weekend wear is 41600 miles a year. minus possible sick days. Had mine just over a month and already at 4100

Back in 1990. A late NASCAR mechanic, who was a friend of my uncle's personally recommended the system to me, when I inquired about synthetic oil for my new SHO.
Glen,
Did Ford recommend synthetic in your SHO? My GTO’s LS2 recommended M1. That SHO engine was a beast, from what I heard seriously de-tuned for public consumption. 😳
I was lucky enough to go on a day trip to Dearborn in the early 90’s in preparation for an upcoming project.
I remember seeing about 20 SHO V6’s on carts in a hallway ready to be tested. It was a incredible experience, also caught a glimpse of a yet to be released 4.6 DOHC Cobra engine in a test cell, sweet!

At the time, I bought my Ford Taurus SHO with a Yamaha 3.0 24 valve V6. I was living in the Upper Midwest. I would leave for work at 4:00 in the morning. Temperatures some mornings were -20° I wanted an oil that was still fluid or pourable at that temperature. I heard all the hype about Amsoil. Mobil 1 was about the only other easily available synthetic oil on the market. I turned to my uncle who was a stock car turned NASCAR driver. He told me to call a former NASCAR mechanic/friend of his in Daytona Beach Florida. The mechanic and I had a long talk about molecular structures of
mineral based oil VS synthetic, including shear values, filtering properties. More than I understood.
That mechanic sold me on synthetic oil and my oil change process. Other than my motorcycles. I have never gone back to mineral oil
My synthetic oil change schedule
6,000 full oil & filter
3, 000 filter only
The only difference now is. Living in a very dry, mostly warm climate year-round. I go longer intervals.
10,000 full oil & filter
5,000. Filter only

Take care

Hate to be a naysayer in this conversation, but I would suggest you find a different oil. The low viscosity combined with an apparent low fuel dilution tells me the oil has sheared enough to bring the value down to around a 20 weight. Your iron is still around 2ppm/1000 miles, not enough to have heartburn, but indicative the oil isn't up to the demands of the EB.

When I was going to trade school to become an Automobile Line Mechanic,
lotsa words🤪 I felt my first instructor was my best. He once said, if you were ever faced with the hypothetical choice of changing just your oil or just your filter, the filter would be the one to change.
I think your strategy for your oil changes is very well thought out.

Surprised viscosity low.
Did sample on my truck at 1500 miles since new. Also did sample on wife’s 2017 Escape, and it’s viscosity low too. The oil is Motorcraft.

So viscosity is out of range, yet Blackstone says should be ok.

i pull my sample with oil barely warm, not hot. Blackstone says no matter, they heat up oil when doing viscosity sample.
Low viscosity is an engine killer. All the timing components shear the oil molecules that kill the oil.

You need to find an oil that won't shear..

Watch "themotoroilgeek" and "fordmakeyouloco" on YouTube for more info on oils and extended oil change intervals.

What worked for you in 1990 won't work today.

I used to drive like you.
Back then I had an Escape Hybrid.
I would go 20,000 miles on Mobil 1 and Blackstone said the oil was fine. Mobil advertises their oil is good for 15,000 miles guaranteed.

Looks good. I've been changing at 3k just for the samples to be consistent and to make better judgement of how long the oil lasts in my driving conditions/location. For me, it ends up being once a year and I'm happy with doing it once a year. I'd do it once a year regardless of how often/little I drive just to have something to do and keep the engine peppy. I just don't drive as much as I used to and I'm happy about it. The EB seems happy to. Here are the results so far:

Screenshot 2024-09-18 162643.jpg

I'm happy between 3-5k as the manual states for my driving conditions and I'm happy with the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, but I also just got some Rotella T6 Multi-vehicle that I'm going to use eventually too. It was only $25 on sale and is also great oil for the EB's, just not as many additives. That is probably why the TBN came back so high on this one in comparison to the initial change where I'm pretty sure a good 1/4th quart of old oil was left in and I have no idea what type of oil it was as I bought used with 11k on it (but the oil was definitely changed by CarMax before I bought it). As long as the antifreeze number doesn't start climbing I think the EB will be okay for a while longer 🤣

So, have at it. Tell me I should go for 10k like a Hybrid or tell me I should change at 1k. I don't care much. Just sharing my results for my use and my preferences on maintenance.

To anyone seeing this information for the first time, if you are interested, contact Blackstone to get some sample containers sent out.
Sorry...look at the "properties" section on that report.

The BOLD letters say the the SUS viscosity ans cSt viscosity have both sheared out of spec... your oil is not lasting long enough to give your engine the protection it needs.

Change your oil brand or shorten your oil change interval.
