Picked up my 2023 XLT hybrid in June. I was driving on the highway the other night, and as I got closer to home noticed the check engine light was on. It seemed like it was driving just fine, and I thought it was odd there was no warning sound or error code on the dashboard screen telling me what the problem was.

I checked the app (Screenshot below) and that's the only place it indicated any issue. However the error message doesn't seem like it makes any sense either. Then 2 days later it says there's no issues noted on the app, and the vehicle health report says "No issues found".

Has anyone else gotten any strange error messages that seems like a jumbled sentence? I'm taking to a dealer Monday to have it looked at, but am trying to figure out if this is something serious, or just a weird bug in the system.

This is a common problem on some MY23 Maverick hybrids, check your VIN on Ford's recall site. I believe there is a software update available to correct this issue.

I'd heard it was an issue, but I checked the VIN just now and it says there's no recalls. When the car was being delivered in June I was worried it was going to be subjected to the engine fire recall (Based on the affected vehicles Ford identified, my truck was built at the tail end of the affected dates), but they let me take delivery of it and the recall never officially came up when I put my VIN in to check then either.

Might just be a service bulletin then. I know there was a post about it a few weeks ago. I don't think service bulletins will show up on the recall site.

I don't think any actual dealer communication has been posted and it doesn't appear on the NHTSA yet, but at least according to the Ford Authority article it's supposedly filed as a Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP).

For what it’s worth, my VIN didn’t show the XLT EB tow package trailer wiring recall either…and then I got a letter from Ford saying it was actually included. Went and checked my trailer lights and yep, they didn’t work correctly. The dealer even said my truck wasn’t included and they wouldn’t look at it. I had to go back with the letter from Ford as proof, for them to even schedule an appointment. Then the service manager said something to the effect of “huh, wonder why Ford’s system isn’t showing your vin correctly”. My point is, not sure checking the vin is 100% reliable.

Fords backend for this has always been slow from what I’ve noticed. My f150 has 3 recalls that are needed but only one shows in fords system. And 2 of the 3 are 2 years old and still waiting for parts supposedly

Go into the Settings menu on the Infotainment Menu and see if there are any software updates available for your vehicle. Connect to home Wi-Fi or your phone's Wi-Fi Hotspot to get the update(s), if any.

That's only for radio updates. The Maverick can't update other powertrain or body modules over-the-air.

As noted by another poster, those updates are only for the infotainment system. Only the dealerships can install software updates for the other components.

Brought it in this morning. Took them some time to figure it out since nothing popped up from the initial checks they ran.

In the end it was a faulty hose which needed replacement. Though the oddly worded error message in the system makes me think that there should be a software update at some point in the future.

Totally covered since under warranty. Thanks for your help all.

your issue is a quite simple fix and I bet many dealers simply don't read anything in their system.

Air leak is well known and was INITIALLY covered by a TSB for vehicles built up to 4/11/2023.
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10238286-0001.pdf

Since 4/11, Ford has issued a customer satisfaction program for vehicles built now UP TO 8/23/2023.
https://fordauthority.com/2023/09/some-2023-ford-maverick-hybrids-need-a-software-update/

Now what is the difference between a TSB and a CSP...I have no clue and the fact that both mention certain or some leads me to believe that it is on a case by case basis (basically if it happens then you are affected) and is NOT tied to a specific VIN.

Was it actually a hose ? who knows but the TSB points to a software issue only.
