I am a potential Maverick Buyer and have been unable to find comprehensive information regarding the functional difference between the two productivity screens.

I am looking at the Mav after years of driving full sized trucks. I love the functionality of a bed, but hated the turning radius/size and poor mileage of a 1/2ton. I also just bought a house with an attached garage that is only 20' deep - this makes a full sized truck especially unattractive.

I am looking at the XLT Lux AWD 2.0 4k. I need to still do some light towing and I am in Minnesota, so AWD is a must. I am torn on the FX4 package because I absolutely do not want to lose Eco and Sport modes. 95% of driving will be commuting 80:20 hwy:city. I would intend on keeping it in Eco mode most of the time to stretch each fill. I also like spirited driving on occasion and really feel like Sport would be a fun addition.

I do hunt/camp some and would expect this vehicle to take a minimum maintenance road, field road, or pasture/prairie. I do not rock crawl, dune ride, or do anything that could really be considered true "off-roading". I would expect "slippery" to take care of any mildly inclement road conditions (cold or muddy). I am slightly concerned with voiding the warranty if any issues arise due to this 5% driving condition, but I find it hard to believe they'd be able to pin anything on that unless there's an obvious rock dent in the oil pan, etc...

At this point, the main reason FX4 is still attractive is the productivity screen. I test drove a XLT w/FX4 and it was neat to see the large display of info between the gauges. The dealer did not have a non-FX4 unit for review. I have watched videos of other ford's 4.2" productivity screens and they look extremely basic. Is this the case with the Maverick? What viewable information/gauges/screens are not available when you move to the 4.2" screen?

If all the same stuff is there and it's just compacted down from 6.5" to 4.2", I am less concerned and would go non-FX4. Alternatively, I understand drive modes have been "unlocked" on other fords using aftermarket software. I don't believe this is available on the Maverick yet and unfortunately this would also probably void the warranty. Does anyone have experience with this?

Much appreciated.

I believe that in short order the aftermarket will offer performance tunes for the Maverick.

There should be an economy tune as well as 87 and 93 performance tunes.

If the 6.5" screen is a must have, I would get it and wait for the tunes to come out.

You get both and don't have to sacrifice one for the other.

The 2.0T is a peppy engine. My Fusion would walk away from my 65 Mustang with a well tuned 289.

Do you think Ford would unlock these modes? Have they every done dealer modifications like that? With this being a new model, I am cautious about doing anything that would objectively void the warranty. If I were buying used, out of warranty, this would be a no-brainer.

The off roading issue with the warranty seems quite a bit more subjective.

I don't think the dash screen is more than a novelty. Once I set something I generally don't bother with it further.
I agree with this, it's all the set up screens. Once you set your preferred options and date time and all that, you don't need any of the cluster screens. It's a novelty.

I had an Escape Titanium and it never fooled around unless I wanted to see if the AWD was actively engaged or not. Even that is subjective if you believe it's in real time or just another dummy light.

I am interested if anyone has experience using both the Maverick's 4.2" and 6.5" screen. Seems like all the video reviews glaze over this or primarily focus on the drive modes in the 6.5" screen.

I really wish I could find a dealer with a few of these little trucks in stock. Would be so nice to experience it myself...

I test drove an XL with the standard screen and it is just that.. standard, normal, pretty boring. There was no change in display between drive modes, like with the 6.5" screen.

The 6.5" screen has way more detail programmed into what its displaying and is more aesthetically pleasing, by far. Though I haven't seen it in person, I've seen it in videos.

Losing Eco and Sport is frustrating. I agree 100%. There are rumors that drive modes can be turned off and on via ForScan, i'm hoping for that but not banking on it.

A tuner does not automatically void a warranty.

In part the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act says:

"The federal minimum standards for full warranties are waived if the warrantor can show that the problem associated with a warranted consumer product was caused by damage while in the possession of the consumer, or by unreasonable use, including a failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance."

We know dealers try their best to deny warranty claims whenever possible, so buyer beware.

I don't do tuners, I buy the vehicle with the power level I want, but that's me.

The 6.5 inch screen is much better than the smaller 4 inch screen. I had that in my ranger, much prefer the larger layout in my mav!

Mud and ruts basically acts like a sport mode, Keeps the revs high and the throttle response fast. Normal mode on the highway is very efficient already, just remember not to gun it and your basically operating as eco mode anyway. Eco modes are silly, in our old Nissan rogue it was so sure to respond it was dangerous. Not worth it, fx4 sounds like the right path here!

I would really be interested in understanding the throttle response characteristics of Sport vs Mud/Ruts - and then that of Eco. I suppose none of this information will be available for a while.

Additionally, don't understand why the 6.5" wasn't an option on the lux vs the "off-road" package. Or even better, just leave eco and sport available with the FX4.

This is really bothering me more than it should.
