You might know a guy that can get you one, or a dozen.OK, those opaque ones do look good on the lighter colors. I may have to order one when/If I ever get my cactus Mav.
I get it brother! Lately I feel like that….Too lazy to change the roll.![]()
I will run a set of those tomorrow with some TPU. Did you go with 100% infill? I’ve ran through 2 spools of black PETG printing stuff for buddies in town. Lots of FITS stuff and cubby inserts. Just telling them it’s an early Christmas gift. Thanks for the .stl mod.I printed a set of caps from TPU for mine, so they're like little rubber seals. I had to tweak Kris' design with a thicker clip profile to get them to stay in. My clip is swept the whole way around the hole so it seals all the way around.
Link to the design files if anyone wants to play with it:

Probably wouldn't want to print this out of ABS or PLA, Kris' should still be the way to go if you print from anything rigid. But I felt like over engineering it.

Thanks for the update!I got mine in the mail and it fits perfect. Thank you very much.

Yes ABS is TOO Stiff and PLA is just too brittle. I even tried Carbon Fiber Nylon but just cant get it right. If I could figure out how to print it sideways I could strengthen the tabs. I am thinking PVA for supports.I printed a set of caps from TPU for mine, so they're like little rubber seals. I had to tweak Kris' design with a thicker clip profile to get them to stay in. Nice! I drew up a FITS mount for my battery charger after this. Too many projects, too little time.I will run a set of those tomorrow with some TPU. Did you go with 100% infill? The single piece STL files are not available. Only the 2 piece files (designed by @JB9 ) are. That is because people like to take designs they find online and pass them off as their own and try to make a buck of them for doing nothing. I don’t remember what thread, but there have been 2 people that have tried to start selling the 2 piece design for a profit on MTC that did not design it. I have a huge problem with that and that is why I don’t make my design files available. @P99Guy and I worked together on this design and he has graciously agreed to my request to not post the design file. This has also made it difficult for him because I don’t have the ability to test my print settings (My maverick is still in order and I know of only one other Maverick in existence and he has a plate) and so he is currently the sole producer of that design.Did you make the one piece stl file available? I may have missed it. Just recently got a filament printer but need to order some filament. I thought someone said earlier that ABS was the best choice, but the post above indicates it's too brittle. Right now I just have PLA at home. What's the best choice of filament for printing these?
I just ordered one.Everyone still following this super long thread.
As of 11/19/2023 All existing orders for the 1 piece cover have finally shipped.
If you have not received yours by Friday 11/24/2023 please start a conversation with me @P99Guy
It may be time to retire this thread and start a new one with fresh ideas.
Thanks everyone!
David
I would recommend using PETG. My second choice would be ASA. PLA would probably do okay in the winter, but in the summer months, it would likely start to warp in the heat.Did you make the one piece stl file available? I may have missed it. Well stated @mfergel, there are so many people that resell others work as if it were created by them. It is very frustrating when I look on sites like Etsy, and see designs that are being sold that were built by others. The 3D printing community, in the beginning, was a great collaboration of tinkerers who would not do this. I think that printers have become so mainstream (not saying that is a bad thing) that people are often looking for ways to make a quick buck. I have never sold anything that I have printed, even my own designs, because I enjoy the process and the creative space that it allows. Not to say that I wouldn't take a filament donation, but I have never taken any $$$ and would never for someone else's design. The photo that I posted at the very beginning of this thread, I have seen being reused on FB posts trying to sell this design too. I make comments saying "hey that is my picture of my truck" and try to steer comment to the file creator on Thingiverse, but they just pull the post and repost again a couple of days later. The single piece STL files are not available. If you choose to print the 2 piece (designed by @JB9 ), I would recommend PETG. ABS is a bit rigid, but may be OK with the thin walls that it has. PLA is very brittle and does not hold up to heat or outdoor elements. Some have had success with PLA for the 2 piece covers, but I don’t know how long they will last. If you have your own printer and can print replacements, then that is always an option.
Finally, @acapaldi redesigned the 2 piece file for use with TPU.

His post is about half way down the page and he has a link to his file there.
