In my opinion the tailgate hole product by @RichardCranium & @P99Guy (1 piece printed design available at https://segarms.square.site ) is a better designed product than the 2 piece. Here is my experience with both.
Ford Maverick 3D Printed Tailgate Hole Caps 20231121_164824

The 2 piece was printed separately by xometry.com for a price of about $16 shipped. The files are public and available at thinkverse. Although I put the order at the same time, both pieces were printed separately, using different materials (large - ABS; small - Nylon 12; hence colors), and were delivered separately at different times. They fit well in this inconspicuous location and I really had no issues with it.

*when I tried to pop the pieces out to insert the 1 piece, a tab on the larger piece broke.

The 1 piece was solid and is thicker than the 2 piece. The slot tabs were also more robust so I don't think it'll peel or snap. It was a uniform color 3D print, that I feel provides a cleaner look overall in this hidden location. The order ($15) was expedited and shipped with care - tab protector insert and bubbled wrapped. It smells of a quality design and print. Came with simple installation instructions and was easy to snap in.

Some of my FAQ's before I decided to buy either cover:

Do you really need to cover this hole?
It depends. Its mostly cosmetic unless you haul a lot of small stuff (eg dirt) in the entirety of the bed and don't want anything getting in the tailgate. The opening is out of sight and for most owners, wont see this being an issue.

So 2 plates or 1?
Both will cover up the hole so I guess it depends on your taste. I prefer the single plate for a cleaner uniform look over the 2 piece look. This doesn't take into account the print quality. From a design aspect, the single piece is thicker and sturdier.

Why did I buy two?
Initially I had ordered and installed the 2 piece version and it was fine. I don't haul a lot of debris to worry about anything getting in these holes. In fact before ordering any plate I really didn't notice this gap. Guess it was more for piece of mind but more so because I like doing these random mods - I'm sure most of you know what I mean.
Anyhow after following the thread and checking out this similar product, it was just for that same reason. A better mod that proved to be a better mouse trap, atleast to me.

Enchalada,

Thanks for the write up.

ABS and Nylon are both great sturdy materials but I experienced the same issues when trying them as they are just too stiff for this application and the way it is printed.

PETG is your friend on this as it allows just a bit of flex for the tabs and the contour of the tailgate bottom.

As to thickness, I just choose to print my covers with more layers to make them strong enough to get through the Post Office.... and I still failed....hence the support piece.

Actually I want to protect the truck from whatever abuse anyone may dish out. It takes longer to print them and uses a bit more material but it makes me feel better about charging for them.

Also the actual site is https://segarms.square.site

And for those wondering, the white rectangle on the photos of the cover is an installation instruction sticker that is removable. It is not part of the cover color.

Thanks,
David

If I ever get my 3D-Priner re-squared and leveled, I was thinking of trying to make a set using TPU, as its somewhat more flexible than most of the other materials. PLA is probably the most brittle, although one of the easier ones to print with. Haven't done a huge amount of 3D Printing, but have dabbled in the past, although my printer is showing its age being bought I believe in 2017.

PET/G is more durable and chemically resistant, which I believe is what they're making them from, but not sure how flexible it is compared to TPU. (TPU is the type of material phone cases are typically made from).

Yes it is PETG. FIROS PETG to be exact. They are printed at 260C with the bed plate at 60C. Since they are printed flat, tabs up, that was the only way I could get the tabs strong enough to survive the flex.

I question the use of TPU as it is not as porous as the PETG and I did not want water trapped around the edges. I actually tested PETG cover with TPU as the inside layer for a better seal but with every water test it held a lot between the cover and the tailgate.

I guess it would not be any different than if Ford had a plastic snap-in hole plug for it. Just my 2 cents. I am not an Engineer, and don't play one on TV. ( I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once though)(I hope many of you got that reference)

I also chose the opaque color for the contrast against my Alto Mav.
Thanks,

@P99Guy
Corrected link in my post.. thanks for that!
Let me know if there is anything else I might have missed or if anyone has any questions that I can help provide.
Applauses to @RichardCranium and @P99Guy for this collaboration and service.

I also chose the opaque color on purpose to contrast against my Alto Mav.

Installed mine today. Snapped right in. I think the one-piece design looks cleaner than the two separate covers. Thanks P99Guy

@P99Guy

I see you're showing temporarily unavailable on your site. If I order, will they ship when back in stock, or should I wait till they are available again?

I am trying to resolve some quality issues.
I think I have them resolved but it will be a few more days before I am sure they are resolved.
if you want to check the order page again on Monday/Tuesday I may be printing again.
Thanks for checking!

As one of the first people to get gravel stuck in their tailgate I love that someone solved this.

Got mine installed last week -
