It really depends on how you want to print and what you're looking for when it comes to results. 4k will of course get better results as far as horizontal details but at some point it ends up with diminishing returns. All of the printers should be capable of .01-.15mm on layer height so the walls will seem much smoother than an FDM printer.Fou
Found it on Amazon for $167.00. They also have a ANYCUBIC Photon Mono 4K for 196.99 with essentially the same size capacity, and a bunch of others with higher resolution and larger printing capacity. I assume the 4K is a little bit better resolution. I know little about 3D printers but I'm concerned about getting something that is not size constrained without spending a ton of money.
Has the Anycubic Photon Mono size been a limitation on what you needed to do?
Thanks for the info.
When it comes to volume, i tend to print within my plate's capacity which is equivalent to a 6" phone screen, give or take. That's a diagonal measurement so it seems limiting at first. However it has 8" of vertical clearance, but the taller the print the longer it will take.
I think the coolest part of an SLA (resin) printer is that no matter how much detail or mass in each layer, the print time will always be the same for equivalent heights! The part I printed earlier was about 2 hours with a bit of lift from the printing plate (5mm) but if I turned it 90° I could make it much larger but print time would be multiple times longer. I'd guess around 8 hours.
So that being said, $170 to start off and play with it is a great starting point in my opinion. I've been printing models for tabletop games for a while now and it always comes out amazing.
Adding a couple of pictures of other random desk stuff I printed so you can see the detail in better lighting.
