2022 XLT AWD Ecoboost low speed braking issue

Hi all,

Really been scratching my head trying to fix this issue. I have a 2022 Ecoboost AWD at 37k miles.

When I'm braking at low speeds the front end will sort of buckle like it's downshifting and the revs are going too low. This is really annoying in stop and go traffic.

If I put the car into neutral and brake it doesn't have an issue, which leads me to believe it's an issue with the drivetrain (maybe transmission/cv axle?).

I took it into a shop and they did a brake inspection and found no issue with the brakes/suspension.

Has anyone run into this issue? I suspect it's my transmission, but at 37k miles I feel like this shouldn't be happening.

I'm trying to make sense of your description. What do you mean by "buckle"? If the transmission is downshifting, that would make the RPMs go higher, not lower.

Sorry, the brakes will basically progressively grab harder until it downshifts, then it does it again until it comes to a complete stop.

Let's say my foot is on the brakes at 50% pressure, the actual brakes will feel like they'll go from 30% -> 70% -> 30% -> 70% on each downshift.

Thanks, I think I understand your meaning now.

My Maverick downshifts more aggressively than other automatic transmission vehicles I've owned in the past, and I've found I have to modulate the brakes more due to this as I'm coming to a stop than I did with those vehicles. It took me a while to get used to this when I first bought my Maverick, but I became accustomed to it and now it's second nature. As it downshifts approaching a stop, it slows more than I expect it to for the amount of brake I'm applying, so I have to modulate, or ease up a bit, on the brakes to make a smooth stop.

Does this sound like what you're having to do?

Yeah I've had the truck for 10k miles now and the issue hasn't started to pop up until recently.

OK, that's too bad. I was hoping that it wasn't a new issue, or that you were new to the truck and I was onto something.

Sounds like a software issue, Try different driving modes and see what you get.

What driving mode are you using?
Normal, eco, sport? I don't use sport but I know it changes shifting patterns.

I use them all but notice almost similar to you in sport. That's why I suggest trying different ones to see if it changes it. In which case it would almost be certain a software issue.
