I'm curious if anyone knows on the 12 volt port below the HVAC controls which wires positive and which ones ground? Going to install my own ambient lighting LEDs, I plan to use the 12 volt port wires for power and ground. Tia

Going to add a wireless on off dimmer controller and then a LED for each front footwell one for the area under the 12 volt port one in the front cup holders and one in the back of the console for the rear footwells.

Just put a voltmeter on the two wires. If it shows with a negative sign in front of the value, you have it backwards. If not, your meter leads are correct, indicating which is positive and which is negative.

I think you could just hook it up. I don't think reverse polarity will hurt an LED, they just won't light up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

An led is a dc bulb which will not work wired backwards. That's why an ac led bulb has an equal number of led's wired backwards from each other. They blink on and off with the sine wave. As one of the pair gets brighter and dimmer the other is off. They blink out of sequence with each other. Human vision cannot detect a light blinking faster than (if I remember correctly) 26-29 times a second.

Check out the fuze panel behind the passenger foot well plastic panel. There are circuits which are on/off with key or the delay off. There might even be open fuze positions, I don't remember how people were adding things there on the 2022's.

I still plan on adding another LED in the front cup holders between the two and one more on the rear of the console to add lighting for the rear footwells. Just didn't feel like unbolting the console after working all week 7 days.

These are the leds I used for my ambient lighting, the multi-led module for the footwells & the single chip smd led for the front tray below the USB ports, as well as between the cupholders & rear of the console. For a switch I used this inline controller with a rf remote control, works perfectly for on/off and adjusting the brightness level. Remote uses a 2025 key fob style battery, purchased a 2 pack and threw em in my console so I have em in case needed.

I purchased everything locally from SuperBrightLeds.com here in Earth City MO. Total cost was 52.00 shipped, and I purchased extra LEDs for spares.

I also plan to add another smd led to the cupholder area between the two spaces, and another on the rear of the console below the add on point to light up the rear footwells.

All right got it all done had time tonight weather was nice I took the console out of the Maverick and added the last two ambient lights I wanted one for the cup holder area and one on the rear of the console for the back foot wells.

The console was pretty easy to remove it has three bolts on the driver side and two on the passenger side, then there's two at the top front near the storage tray below the USB ports. After that you disconnect the wiring harness going to the dial shifter the driving mode's and the rear inverter and USB ports.

Somewhere down the road I also plan to add a OEM style light to the inside of the console as well as it's much needed at night.

I'm really happy with the results and it wasn't that bad to complete took me about an hour. I don't believe the lariats have ambient lighting in the rear do they?
