?, It seems that all of the Mavericks baking in the Mexico sun right now might disprove the idea that the shortage hasn't gotten any worse lately. Or the fact that Ford has recently pared down production at so many of their plants.
Interesting take, I wasn't aware that automakers did this, in early 2020? But, either way, I agree except they are wounding the customers, no themselves yet. Demand for the Bronco and now Maverick mean they aren't hurting so much. I regularly read about record profits being attained.
If Ford knew how bad the current chip shortage is/will be, they would have cut off ordering even earlier. They botched the demand for the Maverick and maybe their ability to build the product as well.
The problem with this line of thinking is dealerships don't want to disclose how many orders they already have or allocation numbers. It's still a ping pong ball lottery system as far as I can see.
Supply and demand. If 80% of the vehicles bought in January were above MSRP, why would dealerships do anything different. Interesting that Ford is the least guilty of this.
Mine must be the only honest one. Told me better than 50/50 my Lariat order on 1/14 would be pushed to MY23 and need to be reordered and no guarantee of price protection. At best, it would be a very late 22 and I might see it in October, September at the earliest.
I wouldn't say never. I agree that it won't change anytime soon, but Ford is butchering this new model they envision of built to order for retail customers. And I'm not talking about chip shortages and supply issues. If enough people start spending elsewhere, they will have to change.
I don't think the Maverick will hold much value; it's built to be cheap with cheap materials. Having these trucks cobbled together due to shortages doesn't help. Are we to assume that all semiconductors are built the same? Probably not, Ford is taking whatever they can get their hands on. It...
Demand was more than Ford expected. It's been announced that they don't have enough parts to fulfill the orders with Lux packages unless enough people start dropping them from their existing orders. Late orders are looking more and more that they will be moved to 23.
What he didn't address is how allocations play into this as well. I saw at least a few December/January orders with Lux packages get build dates yesterday.
