  1. Aftermarket trailer hitch

It keeps you from having problems with the Mav lights. Here is a link to on, though you can beat this price. https://www.etrailer.com/t1-2023_Ford_Maverick.htm?&Redirect=8
  2. I'm building a DIY pop up camper for my Maverick. Just made a short video of my progress if anyone is interested

Well, chances are that you heard a “squeek” when I logged on -lol-. I am more ‘fugal’ then you apparently, as I started with a steel lumber rack that I had from previous pick ups. These are usually available on craigslist for two or 300 bucks. For me, the advantage was that I can haul a heavy...
  3. I'm building a DIY pop up camper for my Maverick. Just made a short video of my progress if anyone is interested

Looking good! I appreciate your sharing. The seal between the roof and the bed without the typical pickup separation between cab and bed remains a real bugaboo for diy (and commercial) shell builders. I elected to use foam weatherstripping strips between the fiberglass top and roof - so far...
  4. Bumped into and idea to share

We have hauled a couple of Hobies short distances with the gate down and a rope to the rack on the Maverick - se pic to the left. I do have cross bars for the rack that we could use. Perhaps a better solution is the extender that goes into the 2" receiver and has a support to the rear of the...
  5. Aftermarket trailer hitch

If you are handy, the more expensive of the two hitches that Harbor Freight sells is super stout, and a LOT cheaper than some of the above options. It is on my truck pictured to the right. Be advised that you will need an electronic adapter for the lights - don't just tap in. There are you...
  6. Maverick 2.0 oil change access without removing undercover (by installing marine access plate)

Oops.... correction: The marine inspection plate is held on with stubby stainless steel screws. Seems like enough, but will keep an eye on it.
  7. Maverick 2.0 oil change access without removing undercover (by installing marine access plate)

Pop rivets would be great, especially with a washer on the blind side to spread out the bond. If memory serves (always risky at 76) I used nuts and washers with screws to match the "V" of the marine deck plate. Next time I am in there, I think I will put a little nylon cord through a hole in...
  8. towing hitch suggestions

There are two harbor freight hitches, and the slightly more expensive one is a steal! I installed it, and there are you tube instructions. However, you WILL need an electronic adapter for the lights....don't just patch in the flat four. Pic of my truck shows the install .
  9. Ford points redemption

One more issue to consider - it is a "use 'em or lose 'em" proposition. They disappear in one year from delivery. I just used the remainder of mine: pocket for right side bed, bug deflector, air filter, and some oil filters. Came within four cents of my total. i ordered mine at the local...
  10. Gas leak 2023 Ecoboost Maverick

Thanks for the follow up.... my bad for not updating, but I think that I have it handled. It was the oil can setup, which I decided to take off after researching that these can affect the warranty issue. I wish that there was an "official" statement from Ford on these, as they DO seem to...
  11. Where to cut into shield to access oil filter?

Since you have to remove the shield to do this, you would not need measurements from another rig (mine is a 2.0), but here is something to consider. The top pic is from the top of the shield, and the blue one is from the road side...
  12. Gas leak 2023 Ecoboost Maverick

No, was careful not to do any topping off, but good point....thanks! Thanks for the post, Chippermark. I will check that out. The smell seems to be strongest around the catch can, but it is hard to tell. Time to crawl under and follow the line back.
  13. Gas leak 2023 Ecoboost Maverick

No, was careful not to do any topping off, but good point....thanks!
  14. Gas leak 2023 Ecoboost Maverick

Just came from Baja 1250 miles (now Mav has 5,500 miles) and when we start it or stop, we smell gas. It has a definite leak that was not there before. Quick inspection shows nothing in engine compartment, in depth investigation to follow. There was no “off roading”. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  15. My DIY camper shell

  16. Best Overlanding Rig Hands Down

Thanks... yes, I did a little reading a while back, and one poster claimed that many aerodynamic factors don't really kick in until 55mph. No build posts really, it was a "use whatcha got" process with an older ranger rack (have cross bars that remove - YUP, improved aerodynamics! lol) and a...
  17. Best Overlanding Rig Hands Down

Love it! But, I think maybe we went to different aerodynamic specialists for our wind drag studies.
  18. Front tow hook would be nice

No, (FORTUNATELY !!) I have not had to do this.... BUT I am wise enough to think through a situation BEFORE it arises. We spend a LOT of time in Baja, and there are no tow trucks or cell service where we are. So, do your own brainstorming if you will.... I would LOVE to have a better solution...
  19. Front tow hook would be nice

This has been a constant lament on these trucks... my best solution is to pull it out from the rear trailer hitch. If you need to pull it from the FRONT, run a tow strap UNDER the rig from the tow hitch. I love the nylon tow straps, so be sure to keep it away from a hot exhaust. Huge...
  20. Welp, I traded in my Maverick

I think it's the same reason that they use the forum to post "Hey, I finally got an email, or a delivery".... join the "brotherhood", I spoze. Shucks, some people now share pictures of their meals. But, I do appreciate his reasoning to weigh in along with the glowing newbie reports. And, the...
