Well, I've had my XLT Hybrid for a month and a half and have put 6K km on the clock.
Overall, I am quite pleased with it, pleasantly surprised, to be honest!
My driving is almost 100% highway, mostly 400-series divided highways around Toronto, with a bit on two-lane mixed in. Not the best...
Sure, if you can do that. The cables are crimped onto their fittings; taking them off is not easy nor would be properly re-crimping them without the correct tool (a hydraulic crimper).
In the half-down position the left one is a bit slack, but not nearly as much as it was in the fully-down position. In the fully-down position even with 235 lbs on the tailgate, the left one was still slack. In the half-down position I can take up the slack just by pressing down on the tailgate.
You'd be surprised at how well they hold; nothing should move as long as it is torqued properly. Every car's door latch striker posts are built this way, a post threaded into a nut on a moveable plate on the backside. They hold up to years of doors slamming, bodies flexing and minor accidents...
The nuts were very clearly spot-welded onto the body before it went through the paint shop. Most likely using a fixture or robot to position the nut. The tailgates are not hung onto the vehicles until after the bodies are painted. I have 30 years experience in an auto plant, so I am quite...
There have been many posts about uneven slack on the tailgate cables, with the assumption being that the cables are being made unevenly.
I found the problem, at least with my Maverick. The left cable appeared (key word here) to be too long, it was slack even if I put my 235lb weight on the...
I bought one two weeks ago for the same reason: my order was further delayed and I couldn't wait. I expect the one I ordered to arrive in mid-late April. Will likely be selling the one I have and taking the one I ordered. If you want more details, I posted more about it the other day in a...
I agree, I could probably do it in 15 minutes now, lol! So happy I did it, as I don't have a heated wheel and the leather feels much nicer. I believe the leather is of higher quality than what comes with the Lux pkg. wheel.
Thanks for this thread; I just did the swap on my non-Lux XLT hybrid. It looks and feels way better than the stock plastic wheel!
Via eBay I purchased a wheel from a 2020 Fiesta ST from the U.K., got it in a week. I picked one with red stitching to match my hot pepper red exterior, the ones...
