Hey guys,

Todd already has the S&B Cold Air Intake installed on his Maverick, and we wanted to show a couple quick things with the system.

One video shows the filter change, and the other gives you a good idea of the sound difference with the intake cover on vs. off.

Definitely a noticeable change in sound depending on how you run the system.

Curious which setup you guys prefer, cover on or cover off?

Would you be inviting any issues running it without a cover?

The placement and casing looks like the hood could protect it with the cover off. I wonder if the cover would add more insulation keeping the air colder and reduce air turbulence coming in from the outside to the filter.

That's an interesting idea. Wonder about particulate getting in and reducing engine longevity, as I've read that's a concern with air intakes generally. But maybe more dependent on the filter itself rather than the cover. But I really don't know. I do like the sound though

With the cover on, all the air comes from the inlet tube. With it off, it will draw from the easiest source which most certainly includes air from the engine compartment.

I imagine the particulates coming in are the same that would be under the hood and yes that is what the filter is for.

Creating efficient cold clean air flow is always good for the engine.

What decreases longevity is adding strain and excess stress to the engine parts. These engines are capable to hold more power. Ford finds the right balance for longevity and performance. Obviously they can be hyped up. Think about Honda Civics from the Fast & Furious in reality they are slow, but you put mods and tunes you have rice burning monster. Another perspective is there is a reason drag cars need a whole engine overhaul after a 4 second quarter mile race.

I feel like the 25+ S&B intake and GTA6 are going to be released at the same time. It’s been getting delayed to the next season for a year now.
Similarly to you I'm very satisfied with the K&N drop in filter for the time being. The other options that has a filter cone 100% exposed under the hood defeats the purpose imo.

I did end up ordering the Forge one two days ago. Only because I’m tired of waiting on the S&B one. I’m curious to see what kind of intake temps I get with that and having the CVF intercooler vs. what I’m getting now with the K&N and intercooler. (Still need to bring my damn laptop with me and log the temps.)

I may play around with designing and 3d printing a shroud type deal (like the S&B) if I’m not happy with the temps with the Forge)

that’s the S&B one, yeah. But I have no idea what that site is. And the fact that it says “in stock” is a little odd to me. To my knowledge, S&B hasn’t even started shipping the 25+ ones yet.

Thanks. That is oddly scary then. Thanks for pointing that out. The mfg source is always better to follow.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy a cold air intake, then take the cover off to pull in hot air. It defeats the purpose.
