Door sill protective strips

In other threads here, I've seen people suggest how dirt, salt, etc. can get under a lot of body modifications like fender flares, bug deflectors, etc. and, if you plan to keep the vehicle for 10+ years, can cause rust issues. Assuming that's all true, does the same hold true for the protective strips you put down on the door sills? (Obv. no one yet has a Maverick with 10+ years on it, so this would necessarily be based on other vehicle experience.) Thanks.

Right. That's what they are for. But do they have the potential downside of trapping crud underneath them that will then become a rust problem long-term. If they do, I may rather have the scuffs than the rust.

The door sills on the Maverick benefit from having weatherstripping protect them from most of the road grime and rain. From what I have observed on mine in the past year, that won't be a problem. The sill protectors are probably better than the scratches you would otherwise end up with. Depending upon the type of sill protection chosen, this most likely will not be a problem. Some designs may allow debris to collect under them, but they will most likely only cause some minor abrasion. Not likely to rust unless really neglected. Just my opinions.

I was looking for something larger more protective than the mostly decorative metal plates that I've seen in some places. I would think the second ones listed made of rubber would be less likely to cause any ware thru of the paint from anything that might get under them. The thermoplastic one would probably be a harder surface that would tend to ware more on the paint from anything trapped under them. Again just my thoughts.....
