Hello, my first post and soon to be maverick owner. I currently have a 24 SuperDuty lariat with the Tremor package. I also currently have a 2015 Subaru crosstrek with 180k miles which is an absolute terd 😆. Over the last 18 months I've spent allot of time in the garage keeping the subaru on the road and I'm over working on it. If it was a horse I'd shoot it at this point...

With that said I've been extremely happy with the new Ford and looking to replace the dying subaru with another Ford for a commuter. This brings me to the powertrain questions and owners expierences. Specifically highway and climbing. I have a 80 mile commute with 4000 feet of elevation gain that I need to do about 10-12 times per month.

I was considering the hybrid but I think with the climbing and highway miles I won't notice a substantial mpg improvment and would appreciate the hp of the ecoboost? I average about 75mph but slow down a bit on the steeper grades. I also despise cvt transmissions after the subaru which kinda deters me from the hybrid.

Im also wanting AWD. We don't get a ton of snow but there's some gnarly ice a few times per year.

I would also prefer to the 4k tow package. I don't plan on towing with this truck but I think the trans/oil coolers and larger radiator would be beneficial when it's 110f plus.

So current maverick owners would you agree with my thoughts process or will the hybrid out perform and bring the mpgs on my commute?

I was planning on finding an xlt with the above options but the current backup camera recall has xl and xlt sales on hold. I found a used 2024 lariat with everything I want. 9k miles, immaculate condition and very good deal. I put a refundable deposit on it and plan to look at it tomorrow.

If anyone's wondering why I don't just go get another small car I need to carry allot of gear with me. The rear seats were always down and whole subie was FULL of stuff 😆. I want it all to have a place in the bed with a tidy cabin.

The hybrid really excels in MPG with a lot of in-town stop/go driving. If most of your driving is highway, the slight mileage improvement of the hybrid compared to the 2L turbo will not be as noticeable at the pump. Also, turbos tend to loose less power at high altitudes than normally-aspirated engines, and if you want a more sporty driving experience, definitely choose the 2L ecoboost.

I wouldn't discount the eCVT based on your experience with the Subaru CVT. They're completely different technologies that unfortunately happen to have the same base abbreviation. The Maverick eCVT is a VERY reliable transmission. There are a bunch of different YouTube videos that talk about the Maverick eCVT that will explain the differences and why the Maverick eCVT really is a pretty simple and bulletproof design. Even on a discussion forum like MaverickTruckClub where people love to complain about anything and everything, I can't recall offhand really any mechanical complaints about the Maverick eCVT.

I agree that there really isn't any negative to getting the 4K tow package, and a lot of benefit, and that the AWD is very good to have.

As you look at that Maverick tomorrow, be sure to ask why they're selling it, and ask yourself why it seems to be such a good deal. If you're comparing the cost to a new '25, then it will be a good deal, as the '25s are more expensive.

Thanks for your reply. Ill research the ecvt tonight. Suprisingly I havent had any catastrophe failures of the subaru cvt. I'm sure having only 148hp didn't help my driving expierence.
I do have some questions for them and that's definitely one of them. I reviewed the carfax with nothing major reported. I also looked at the original window sticker and it is a 24 with all of the lariat options except one. It appears to have cloth seats. Not a deal breaker but I thought all the 24 lariats had leather? Manufacture date was in late 2023 so I was thinking maybe that was a mid year change. I did read that cloth was an option in the lariat prior to 2024.

Part of the deal has to do with what they will give me for the subaru on a trade. It recently blew a radiator bypass hose. After replacing the hose and refilling the coolant I noticed the reservoir was very oily. Most likely a blown head gasket that I don't want to fix nor pay someone to do for me. I was honest with the sales rep about it and he still gave me good value on it.

Jim,
I have read your post. I'll make it short and sweet.
You have probably found your Maverick. You said it had everything you wanted and you liked the deal they offered. If everything checks out tomorrow I think you should probably get it. With the driving you do, I think you'd be less than ecstatic with a hybrid.
I'm familiar with northern AZ.
The only thing I would change is if you did more trail driving you could want an FX4.
Good luck keep us updated.

I picked it up today am loving this little truck so far! I couldn't resist parking it next to the super duty as soon as I got home. Having it match almost exactly wasn't planned but it just so happened to workout that way 😆

Super impressed on the drive home up the hill. I kept it in eco mode and averaged 24 mpg for the 4000 foot accent (according to the truck). I'm expecting the tank average to go up when I head back down. Handles very well and am more than pleased with the performance. This little motor just sits at 2k rpm and seems unfazed by the hills.

No mods planned except for some weather techs.

I kind of figured you'd found your truck from your first post. It fits right in with your family.
Glad you're happy with it.
🎄 Safe travels and happy holidays for you and your family 🎄

The "leather" seats in the Mavericks are fake leather. I much prefer cloth, but to each their own. Congrats on your new ride!

I had a 2016 Subaru and hated the CVT. I now have a 2023 Maverick Hybrid and love the eCVT. I like it better than any transmission I've ever driven. No belts no pulleys, and no rubber band effect that the Subie annoyingly had. The Mav just goes. You should watch a few YouTubes about the drastic differences between the CVT & eCVT.

I literally live right at the foot of the Appalachian mountains separating NC and TN. My AWD Ecoboost laughs going over them. It doesn't even work hard. And I still average 28.6.

The Ecoboost has a cool split personality. Like a mullet. All quiet business demeanor with normal throttle inputs. But a bigtime party animal when you floor it.

Im always a little suspicious of dealers. Since it is a new/used vehicle I was curious if dirty Mike and the boys had a soup kitchen in there and the interior was replaced at some point.
I am curious how the ecvt works mechanically. Ill check it out.

The only good thing I have to say about the Subie was that the drivetrain managed to hold together...kinda. Other than that I think I replaced about every other part, which is to be somewhat expected for the mileage. As of now I don't want to ever turn a wrench on anything that's not a 60-70s era 4x4 with a carbureted push rod V8. The crosstrek destroyed my passion for working on cars 😆

Im still suprised how well it does. The maverick sits right at 2k rpm in cruise control compared to crosstrek that would scream at 4k plus to climb. I would also have to be traveling at mach 6 at the bottom to be going 50mph at the top of the hill. And forget about passing any semis...
