Q. What is the Tailgate Lock? Is this just a key lock on the tailgate?

Seems odd that this would not be factory installed... also odd it's not standard.

My job-1 build doesn't have it - I'll probably enter a job-2 and wonder if I should add this. Not planning to add a bed cover at this time, but may have one in the future.

If you read carefully, you will see that it is a HINGE lock. Basically an add-on cover for one of the hinges on the tailgate so it can't easily be removed. The tailgates all come with a key lock.

Tailgates are theft magnets. Spending $50 or $30 on Amazon for a lock could save you thousands if yours gets swiped.

Yes if you have your tailgate down to carry long stuff or for whatever reason it only takes a few seconds for someone to carry it off. I ordered one for mine, figured worth the cheap insurance to keep it attached to my truck.

This is the tailgate lock. There is a screw band hose clamp inside the plastic and has the keyed socket just like the keyed lug nut socket but smaller.
