Sitting here at home, I was just thinking about us Maverick Owners. We are a dieding breed of car guys! We are the guys who over 50 years have been modifing all our vehicles to make them different from other peoples cars, and trucks. Todays younger crowd are into tuning, not us, we like to change and add things. Truck guys are hands on people from the minute you drives your truck home, the wheels in your head are thinking what this truck needs! The Maverick was the perfect vehicle to do things to. You could buy basic XL, or go all in like I did with a loaded Lariat, (I still have my 56 Tbird to play with) Even at 84, I still like to get my hands dirty. What's your thinking on this post?
I’m 82, and you’re right. First thing when I got my 24 XLT home I started ordering still have a few things to get. Back seat center cup holders.

Tailgate shock?
No I have not done that, however I have been thinking about installing a torsion spring on the gate axle. I have used that tie down on the gate many times, so I do not want to loose it.

I'm 77 and just got my shadow black Lariat Saturday, I plan on installing (by myself) a Thermal R&D exhaust. I've already installed a swing away tool box, a tailgate damper and had the the windows tinted. I have a garage full of 1970's Honda motorcycles I've restored myself and a 2005 SSR Truck for fun. Keep off the the couch as long as you can!

I have been driving since am 15, 73 now, remember when I ordered my 22 FX4 I got home and started ordering stuff, filled a good part of my garage waiting for my truck, 9 months later I drove home from the dealer with my new truck and started installing all the stuff I got, it was like Christmas morning! People used to stop me on the road and take photos, now I see 3/4 mavericks a day and every auto parts store has a white XL maverick to deliver parts.

I'm a 62 yo female retired engineer. The Maverick is my 29th vehicle - being an engineer, I have them all in a spreadsheet. I was elbow deep in all of them. Everything across the board, 1977 Datsun 280Z to 2018 BMW then there have always been off road trucks - 3/4 ton Suburban 4x4 with lift kit to 1982 Toyota Trekker and I'd have to check the spreadsheet for how many first gen Tacos. I used the 4x4s - the were no garage queens - driven all over Texas, down the Rio Grande, across the US and throughout Mexico into Belize.
But for now - this 100% suits my needs!! I love that you can pop down the tailgate and carry full sheets of plywood. It has the 2" lift, fender flares and larger tires. I have built the hack for carrying bicycles and have been building the custom sleep area in the bed for overlanding.
It pulls our little popup for when we are staying in once place for a few days at a time.

For me, the hands on was born of necessity but now, I can pick and choose what I want to tackle and what I pass on to the shop.

**disclaimer - I still have a 2011 4Runner Limited 4x4

I beat you by a few years. Started my first job after school in 1977 working with a Burrows 700 (something like that, memory is a bit fuzzy) computer. No monitor, just big backup disc's a bit bigger than an LP.
