DIY Maverick bed extender with bed cap for winter ski camping & sleeping. I use it with a diesel heater in the -25 celsius winter.

I was always sleeping in my car when go multi-days ski trip. I just got my new Maverick for one month. The Maverick bed is too short even I sleep side with my leg bending . After I got my new cap installed, I started my bed extender box a few days ago, finished the basic function with 2 days work. Later I will add more details later, including safety locking, storage , rain blocking strips.....

Wow, good luck with that. I like to ski too, but thank god for Motel 6. I used to do it (car camp) just on President's weekend but now no more camping at 45 y.o. Skis go back there and nothing on the roof.

I hope you have a portable heater. Was skiing Alta this January and parked next to a guy doing a West ski trip in a 4Runner. I was impressed with his setup and I asked if he was staying warm in the back. He said he was for the most part and had a heater although I didn’t ask which one. This was the first week in January and we skied a week in Utah with temps ranging from 5-15. It was the coldest ski trip I’d been on but my son and I were prepared for it. The funny thing is I have crossbars on my roof right now and I don't like putting things on the roof. This guy sells roof accessories, but has no crossbars hehe. I like putting things on the roof for short trips. But one of my main objectives with Maverick was to keep the roof free and clear for long, windy winter road trips. Everything under the cap.

for many years, I was doing ski camping in the car, very comfortable with it, I have generator/diesel heater/propane heater. especially the diesel heater keep me warm in the coldest night in the mid-winter, we are in Canada!

Looks cozy. I would have done that 50 or 60 years ago, but not now. Snow = stay home.
My only suggestion, next time you are at Rona, invest $30 +13% for a battery powered carbon monoxide alarm. carbon monoxide alarm. You never know when wind or weather (snow) conditions may change and exhaust may enter.

Nice. I did something similar Did you have to adjust your tailgate cable. Mine are a little long and tailgate sits just past level. Seemed easier to build around it than mess with the cable though!!!

I love winter camping. I built expedition top for my jeep. Works great without modifying the jeep it's self. I want build a slide in camper for the maverick. Aluminum box tube 2" foam board and metalwood.
