Anyone know if you can connect a dap like the fiio m23 straight to sync3? It doesn't get detected I connect to either usb port.. I was able to get it to work installing the Android Auto app but it the sound sometime clips or like the song skips for a like a millisecond but it's noticeable.. I'm assuming it's the android auto causing it, tried various cable to rule out a cable issue.

Edit: I don't want to connect through bluetooth since it sounds pretty bad vs being connected with a cable.

a quick google shows the m23 should have some bluetooth function to output to other devices.

How to use the M23 as a Bluetooth transmitter?

It is similar to the mobile phone's. Here are the instructions.
1. Go to the Settings->Bluetooth menu to turn on the Bluetooth function.
2.Make the Bluetooth receiving device, such as Bluetooth earphones, enter the pairing state. (Please refer to the user manual of the Bluetooth receiving device about how to enter pairing state.)
3.Go to the Bluetooth device list of the M23->Pair new device to complete the connection.
What can be done if the M23 fails to connect to Bluetooth earphones?
If it fails to connect to Bluetooth earphones for the first time, please make sure the earphones are under pairing state (the connection will fail if the earphones are under reconnecting state for the first-time connection). Go to the Bluetooth menu of the M23 to start the connection.
What Bluetooth codecs does the M23 support? And how to switch the Bluetooth codecs?
The M23 supportsLHDC, LDAC, aptX-HD, aptX, AAC and SBC which can be switched on Settings->Audio->Wireless playback quality menu.
What should I do if the sound is very low after connecting AirPods or Bluetooth speakers to M23?
  1. Go to System Settings-Audio and find the Bluetooth volume adjustment mode.
  2. Switch the volume adjustment mode to Sync Bluetooth volume.
  3. Disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth device.

I'm trying to avoid bluetooth, the sound quality is pretty bad.. I would just use the phone if it was the only option. I upgraded the sound system and you can really tell the difference when playing through bluetooth.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference between a fiio m23 and just using your phone for music?

sound quality... only worth it if you have a high end sound system with high end speakers. If it was a stock sound system it wouldn't matter but with a high end system you can really tell the sound quality difference of a dap vs a phone

Idk what your budget is but check with a company called naviks. They seem to make adapters to add back functionality to ford sync units.

Interesting, I'm an amateur audiophile and do have a system in my Maverick and an awesome surround system at home. I don't know why I've never heard of these digital audio players. I thought they were a thing of the past. Expensive, but I'm going to have to look into one.

Yeah I didn't really think it would make a difference since it was still going through the head unit but it sounds much cleaner vs my phone. I think I'm going to end up hooking it up straight to the dsp.

thanks Yeah I think at those prices it's probably better to hook it up straight to the dsp.

This will solve your audio problems(well one like it since this one isn't available right now):

I was in the same boat as you with sound quality. The "AI Box" will let you play your tunes using any app you prefer. I use Poweramp myself. I have all of my music stored on an micro SD car that lives in the AI Box. HUGE sound quality improvement, and you get the benefit of being able to run any app you like on the factory screen. I check trail cams, watch Sling TV on lunch breaks, and play music of course. I use my phone's hotspot for internet access and can even listen to Amazon Music with the app running natively on the AI Box.

I connect phone to the AI Box with BT for phone calls and it works just like normal, and have all of my music needs handled by the AI Box. Granted, you won't get to use your Fiio, but it does work and sounds great. It sounds better than having my phone directly connected via USB as well. I hope that helps :)
