Newbie researching/deciding on Maverick options

Hi all,

I'm interested in getting into a Maverick and am doing some research. My priorities are:

• I want to be able to take it on longer road trips
• Keep it simple and reliable (not interested in all of the interior features aside from power seat)
• AWD, light off-roading but nothing technical (one of my goals is to do the Trans America Trail, so forest roads)
• Ability to tow a small, light work trailer

I'm thinking I want the 2.0L Ecoboost AWD XLT with the 4K tow package and probably the Luxury package. I am unsure whether I need FX4. FX4 seems pretty hard to find. I can find a couple reasonably-priced lightly used 2024 examples that have the 4K+AWD. I'm just really unsure whether I'd regret not getting FX4.

I believe you are looking at finding a 2024? FYI if that is correct if you get the luxury group 2024 it offers a lot but your stuck with a drop in bed liner. If your wanting the heated mirrors I believe you can get the 360. If your wanting power drivers seat, heated seats, heated steering wheel remote start on FOB than your stuck with the drop in bedliner.

A few things that come with the FX4 also is included in the 4k tow. What you get extra over the 4k tow is a 6 or 6.5 inch display screen, off road screen, two different modes (mud n ruts, and sand) hill descent, all terrain tires, front tow hooks, a metal skid plate. For the money it's a great deal. I think you may want to expand your search for the FX4 package. For me to replace the tires basically pays for other upgrades.

if you can it's 795 option to upgrade rims and tire size to P235 all terrain. Which one you may like the rims better but you gain about a 1/4 inch ground clearance. Also it went from Perilli's Scorpion to Falkan Wildpeaks and a more aggressive tread. Not having the different tires wouldn't be a deal breaker besides you may like the black rims that come with the FX4.

You know I guess it depends on how long you keep a vehicle for me it's crucial to get options I need, because I don't have a high turnover and usually keep vehicles for over 10 years. I know someone that gets a new lease every year so it's not that crucial because he is not suffering long before his next vehicle.

I have a MY22 Lariat/Lux, AWD, 4K Tow EB. Love it. So far its been solid as a rock, zero issues. Tows and hauls everything I've thrown at it. Some mild off roading (hunting club roads with some ruts/mud etc). Think you'll be ok without the FX4 from what you describe, that's up to you. Just realize none of the Maverick versions are really intended for remotely serious off roading - for that look at Broncos, Ranger Raptor, Jeep, etc.

If you can find one with the FX4 package I'd highly recommend it. FX4 is meant for off-road. the AWD version is meant for paved roads unless you the upgrade tyres. As HE says it's a no-brainer just for the tyres alone.

One cannot get any better information. I'd be surprised if any salesperson on a Ford lot would have this much advice to give. Just wanted to compliment you for being one of the reasons why this forum is exceptional and successful.

So I want to get something that is robust (part of the reason I was interested in the 4k package, for example, is increased cooling capacity).

I've been looking at CPO rather than brand new. There's a CPO XLT w/ lux, 4k, AWD that meets my specs near me with only ~1k miles for $30k, whereas a new one that also has FX4 is closer to $35k. The latter also has the P235 A/T upgrade as you mentioned.

Maybe I need to go test drive that new FX4 tonight...

There is someone or a group that is offering X plan that may close the gap between the new vs used. Do a search on the site or open another thread how to get x plan.

Even 1k miles it's also years/months whichever comes first so it may decrease your warranty depending on how old and how many miles you drive. Also if your paying cash it doesn't matter but if your financing check interest rates they may differ as well.

Do you really want to deal with vinyl seats? Of course 5000 thousand is a lot of reason, hopefully the plan or the dealership can sweeten the deal and close that gap. I hear it gets hot in Florida. Hope you, your family or even acquaintances are okay and survived Helena. My family was spared but looking at the devastation it left behind is staggering. My prayers to all that were affected.

Just thought of something yes the lariat is more expensive but if your comparing the two trucks for off rood you would still pay 800 to 1000 for all terrain tires. So in essence it's a little over 4k different if your planning on all terrain tires. Just something to consider. Also forgot the FX4 also has upgraded suspension. A little stiffer but better handling from what I've read on reviews. I only have the FX4 so I wouldn't know what difference there is. Except videos and reviews sorry forgot about the different suspension or upgraded suspension.

Thanks for the kind thoughts @Hunters Edge. We didn't have any damage thankfully, but did lose power for several days.

Had never heard of X plan before. I am digging into it. My wife is also a Farm Bureau member and I see there's a cash discount tied to that.

Cloth seats are a priority for me, which is why I'm staying away from the Lariat trim.

I remember the adage about cars dropping in value as they roll off the lot, though I wonder if that still holds true in the recent car market post-COVID.

Both of the trucks I mentioned are 2024, the $30k one with 1k miles seems like it was bought by someone who didn't end up liking it so it's technically CPO but basically brand new. However that dealer is a couple hours away; the $35k one is much closer, which comes into consideration vis-a-vis the dealer warranty.

I've never bought a new car from a dealer before so I am unfamiliar with pricing and warranty options. However with the FX4 package and if the warranty is attractive (because I'll be close enough to actually take advantage of it) then maybe the premium is worth it.

Have you ever went off road. Seat cover can help with heat and cold but with seat covers you still slide. Sometimes hard enough to hurt yourself. Not saying this doesn't or can't happen with cloth seats but it very limited . So cloth seats are helpful in many ways.

To me seat covers look like TV shows with clear plastic on sofas and chairs. I know different material, it just doesn't make sense to pay good money for something and cover it up. Unless in time the seats are damaged from cracking, splitting, ripping, stained etc. Then it's obvious covers are needed or pay the money for new skins.

Of course keep in mind it's just my opinion.

We did the test drive tonight of the FX4 and to my surprise the wife loved it. I was pleasantly surprised as well.
Barring second thoughts after sleeping on it, we’ll probably move ahead tomorrow.

Get the 4K tow package. Very reasonable for the extras and not feasible to add everything you get with it later.
