Another day of fun trying to keep a nice vehicle

My 2022 XL was the victim of a hit and run drunk driver Saturday morning at 1:30am. My girlfriend woke me up saying someone hit the cars out front and of course he only hit my truck. Fortunately got his plate number before he got away. There is obvious damage but there is an oil spot where he hit it and to me the hood gaps look off a bit. This should be a fun adventure…..

May want to check closely behind the bumper area to make sure radiator, hoses, lines, etc were not damaged.

I’m not touching it until the adjuster comes out to look at it. My insurance company told me not to drive it and got me a rental truck. The bumper in the picture came off his car and it was black but he left white paint on my truck and it was all on his bumper and I said to the responding officer that it looked like he hit another vehicle and he said oh yeah he was on a crash spree all night.

I was talking to the guy after he hit it and tried to get him to shut off his car and get out but he refused. I could tell from his speech he was drunk or high and when he refused to get out after asking a second time he said he had to leave and I called 911 and reported it as hit and run.

He kept revving his engine and doing neutral drops in forward and reverse and I didn’t want to get run over but finally right before he took off he pulled up enough to get his license plate number. No police report available yet and no word from them if he was caught.

I am sending it to John Kennedy Collision Center in Feasterville where I purchased it, not sure how this is going to go because there may be hidden damage. The shifted hood gaps is a cause for concern to me but I am not the body shop so I’m at their mercy.

Police took his bumper for evidence.

Got the police report a few minutes ago and he lives about 5 blocks away from the house. My girlfriend said a coworker told what appears to be the car is abandoned on a side street a few miles away. I'm going to check it out myself as soon as I get done with work. Of course he abandoned just inside Philadelphia city limits and I am in Bensalem so I am guessing that he hopes the change in jurisdiction makes for a huge delay in finding the car.

in my home state any hit and run is automatically a felony, even if minor property loss, and the class of offense goes way up if there's personal injury or death.

felony complaints tend to get things moving, at least at the start. no idea what will happen for you in PA, but in Kansas that would be 6-12+ months in court.

I would think your insurance should take care of all the heavy lifting. typically they would pay to fix your car assuming it has full coverage, and then sue the other guy's insurance and/or him personally. again that's how my state works, at least.

Apparently in PA if there are no injuries it will not be written up.as hit and run. He is getting a citation for failure to maintain lane and that's it. It was definitely the car and no broken ignition or column to indicate it was stolen. Took pictures and talked to both Philadelphia and Bensalem PD so everyone knows what is going on. It is parked half on someone's lawn facing the wrong way on a 1 way street.

So, as of now no word from the body shop if it is a total loss or getting repaired either to me or the insurance company. And 2 days ago the other drivers insurance called me and apparently he is denying the accident ever happened and he never hit my Maverick. Yeah, that's why I have pictures of your bumper jammed in my bumper and your license plate number. I can see this is REALLY going to get interesting.

I got it back on August 5th and the work looks great. Going for a diminished value claim with DV Check assisting me, the estimate is $4250 loss of value. Went on a trip to Honesdale PA to see my brother and go to department of vital statistics for a copy of my birth certificate to get a real ID.
Truck seems fine other than a mild banging sound underneath my feet over bumps which was there prior to the accident.

The highway MPG when driven sanely (60-70mph light throttle) is amazing with 40.2 average off a fresh tank of regular with about 25 miles from wawa to the PA turnpike.

That MPG isn’t a fluke, several other trips on the turnpike resulted in similar MPG but this was my best. Also, my only solo trip home with no baggage or cargo. And I plan on making an appointment with the dealer for the banging noise this week. I’m the poster child for bad luck lately and need a breather
