USB port set up in upper sunglass holder??

Has anyone installed an USB port inside the upper console where the sunglasses are??

I thought about it but the power up there by the light isn't 12 volt, which is what most of the step down parts are powered with. Now I have a bunch of 5 Volt adapters, that aren't powering the dash cam.

My sunglasses are manual so they don't require power

A buck converter wouldn't really care what the voltage is as long as its greater than its target. Although the backlight circuit is sensitive to load at certain dimness settings and may shut off with extra devices tapped into it.

Makes sense, with the dashcams etc... Should definitely start being a feature!

I thought the lights up there were 12 volt and people were using them for their home link mirrors. I also thought I watched a video that someone installed a usb to run their dash cam,!but can’t seem to find it sorry.
