Could you explain how or what the Amazon purchased actuator rod attaches to on the original XL tailgate lock mechanism inside the tailgate?
When you have your access panel removed, put your key in and lock and unlock the tailgate. There is a plastic “ring” that will move. I Had to make modifications to the clamp that hooks to the plastic”ring” that the lock actuator moves and hooked it to the right side of that. I had to use my dremel to widen the opening and then I drilled through one of the holes that is supposed to clamp to the rod and just pushed the rod through and bent it in the right spot.

I'm seeing 2 of the "clamps" in the picture - is the other one securing the end of the 90 degree bent rod in place?

That is how the person that installed that one originally did it. I just bent the wire backwards. He bent it at a 90, cut off the extra and installed the clamp to keep it in place. I needed all my clamps. (I bought the 2 pack and installed on 2 mavericks) so I just bent around the clamp and left the excess. I have not had any trouble that way. You just can’t clamp the rod into the clamp because it won’t let the rod move like it needs to. It needs to be able to rotate in the clamp.

(y) Thanks again for the explanation (and the drawing).

. . . . I just bent around the clamp and left the excess.
I'm gonna try that.

That's what I imagined.

Good luck. It was a relatively easy install. Hardest part was pulling the wiring harness to run the new wires. My second install took 45 minutes.
