Why did you choose your Mav Tremor over an entry level Ranger? Or other entry level midsize trucks; Colorado, Tacoma, etc?

I'm definitely leaning toward the Tremor but not sure why…mostly a gut feeling. With the Tremor Package (and especially if you go for the Lariat) you’re getting into midsize price range.

Mostly I’m looking for y’all to feed my confirmation bias (tell me my gut is right)

The Maverick is a smaller truck than the Ranger (or Colorado, Tacoma, etc.). That's it. I wanted a small truck. You know: park anywhere, easy to maneuver, all that.
But only on the outside of the cabin. The other trucks have bigger bed, bigger fenders, bigger hood, bigger grill. But the interior space is virtually the same in 9 out of 10 metrics.

We got ours because with a topper we have way more space and storage room than a full size(really mid sized) Bronco. Price was also a factor. We wanted a Bronco but didnt want a $700 a month payment. We ended up with our XLTremor for a $535 payment. A Ranger with 4x4, skid plate, and rear locker, was way above our Mavericks price. I want to say about $6000 more. Not to mention harder to get in and out of. Harder to load the dogs in the bed. Performance was also a factor. The Maverick platform will beat just about any 4x4 truck that cost less than $50 to $60 grand. If I didnt have other beater trucks that could tow as well as the Ranger I may have considered it but at that point a XL F150 is a smarter buy, with a ton more capability. I may go that regular cab route in the future after we buy our tractor, but for now my 96 Bronco or Comanche can tow a 4000lb tractor if need be.

The Ranger is a good truck, but for the money our XLT Maverick is where its at. $3000 off at Granger sealed the deal.

Tremor does what I need, price wasn't a factor.

Agreed - Ranger, Colorado, Taco, etc. are all pretty large compared to the Maverick. If you don't need to tow anything Maverick is the way to go IMO. Interior room is just as good or better, easier to maneuver than the mid-sizers, a good amount cheaper when comparing similar equipment (i.e. off road version v. off road version).

Love my Tremor - came with some of the goodies of the BAP as a bonus (blackish seats & interior, smoked headlights and taillights) and a better AWD system than the FX4 (which wasn't available with BAP).

Completely unnecessary honestly unless you are going to off road with it, but still looks cool and a decent-ish value for the package cost (and probably resale at some point). I have hauled some items from the hardware store and backed them down to my basement walkout and had 0 slipping (engaged 4WD and rear locker just for s&g) but the normal AWD system probably would have done the same thing and am certain the FX4 would have, but ultimately I really like the truck.

Still go back and forth on if I should have gotten an FX4 with the 4K tow package, but honestly I need to tow about as much as I need to off road, so whatever....just money, right? Sometimes I also think I should have gotten an XL and built it out myself but ultimately knew I'd never get most of it done and easier to just order it from the factory how you want it. Also wish I had gone back to 2021 and ordered one then when they were cheaper too. :)

I do question buying the XLT Lux package from a value standpoint. I was actually contacting the dealer to do so and realized that I couldn't b/c I had been scheduled already.

Lariat has some nice features, and I had a 23 base Lariat first, but I prefer the cloth seats personally and I hated the rims on it (wouldn't be an issue in a Tremor) I would not get a Lariat again probably but do wish I had body colored door handles and one-touch up/down on all of my windows like the Lariat had. Probably mods for my XLT Tremor in the future.

Tremor should be a quick turn from order to delivery too. Good luck!

Wanted a small truck and the Tremor offers plenty of off pavement capability for my needs. It will carry almost the same payload as a larger pickup, albeit in a smaller bed. I don't often tow anything and when I do I usually use the F150. For me the '23 XLT Tremor with luxury package checked all the right boxes at a price point I could live with.
I just can't justify paying over 40-45k for a decently equipped Ranger or Canyon/Colorado, never mind paying the cost of most full size pickups optioned the way I want.

The last "small" pickup I owned before this was a 2002 Tacoma. Loved everything about that truck except the gas mileage. So I sold it. And since then I've traveled a lot and seen great looking small pickups in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. And none of them ever were sold here in the U.S. So I told myself that if anyone ever offered anything like them for sale here, I'd buy one.

Well... Ford has.

One can certainly load up a Maverick and have a higher price point as compared to a Ranger with fewer options.
It really depends on what you want size, vs options, price.

1) needed more practicality than my previous vehicle, which included the ground clearance & off-road capability
2) looked at a used Colorado the day before, but liked how the Mav rode more smoothly given its unibody design
3) figured between my trade-in value and the cost of the new Tremor (less than the used Colorado) I'd be hard pressed to find a new vehicle for a better price

So... I don't have a Tremor, but I came from full size trucks down to mid size trucks and for me, the Maverick is all I need. I think too many people are caught up in the status of a vehicle and are going broke in this disaster of a market trying to look cool and I refuse to be a part of it. $40 at the pump with an average 26MPG (w/ larger than stock tires living in the mountains) vs. $100 at the pump and less than 20MPG. That's what it's all about for me. That said, I love the Tremor look (exterior) and I'd have no problem compromising a small amount on the loss of MPG for one compared to my FX4, but I signed on to a warranty for 8 years total and that's the plan until further notice. Trucks paid for, went from multiple vehicles to a single one, and so far so good. *knocks on wood

Thanks Y'all. I'm feeling like it's the right move based on my needs list:
  • Affordable
  • Occasional offroad
  • Decent gas mileage
  • Good lookin'
  • Comfy for longish rides
  • Somewhat partial to Fords (old habits...)
  • Compact Size - for both city parking and offroad trailing
Appreciate all the feedback!

I wanted a unicorn.. 1st year option 2023 XLT Tremor oxford white with TAP, Probably because of added price if I remember maybe 3 grand on top for TAP, production of this was way way low. like under 1%. Only one dealer in Columbus seemed to know how to order it in the 5 days we had to order. .But I love it... Never off roaded in my life. Is that a word? Now if I know what I know today and couldn't get a 1st year option. I'd order a FX4 Maverick. with tow package. Unless you go rock crawling It seems a better fit. Plus my Tremor only gets 21.1 mpg ( my old 1966 f100 only got 13 mpg so it paid for itself) I believe the FX4 does just a little better And 1500 pound towing vs 4000 on the FX4... Last thing to add. I've had my Tremor just over a year now and have hit 2600 miles.. woo hoo. I also own a Hybrid Mav that my son drives and the 40 mpg does pay for it self.. But I would NOT trade or sell my baby as of today. One more thing to add... being an old fart it has gotten harder for me to get in and out of trucks. The Ranger i needed a ladder i swear. Even the one inch higher door opening on my Tremor catches my foot sometimes.. lol

I origionally ordered a base line XL with AWD in 22 but it never got built so when I had to move up to 23 and they offered the Tremor package I moved up to the XLT because I wanted the cruise control and ordered one. Base XLT has everything I need plus and I absolutely love the Tremor package. I don't tow anything with it as I have a super duty and I don't know where they get the lose in MPG with the Tremor as I get a solid 28MPG. I checked out the Colorado and didn't like it from many aspects and the Tacoma is groosly overpriced for what you get and the gas mileage totally sucks. I have a friend who has one and he has never gotten close to 20MPG and my Tremor was almost $15K less than his Tacoma. One of the best decisions on a vehicle I've made looking back!

I think you'll be happy. Personally, if mid sized trucks weren't so ridiculously overpriced I might consider one again in the future, but for all those things you mentioned, the Maverick checks those boxes and the first one is the most important. Even if your budget is 60k for a vehicle, the question should be: Do I need it? Because the savings are so much more valuable in this economy.
