Dash cam power cord using cigarette lighter adapter. Power on all time time?

Just installed my nextbase dash cam. Not hardwired. Just used the long usb cord that came with it that plugs in to the cigarette lighter. Tucked in the headliner and under the glovebox. For those who did their install this way, do you have to unplug the cigarette adapter every single time? I don’t think it’s turning off. Is that cigarette plug constant on power ?

It should turn off by itself. My hybrid Lariat turns off in about 90 seconds maybe less after I shut down the truck.

It shuts off after reaching a certain voltage but that timer is very unreliable. I had it on for 3 hours one time before I removed it and other times it would be a half hour sometimes less. I was only running it this way temporarily when I first got the truck. Definitely route to your fuse box under the passengers floor mat instead.

Yes I turned the truck off and waited and waited and I can still see it on. I just hate to have to plug and plug and wear that hole out

FWIW, if you think you might ever add a rear camera, or need a 2nd switched USB-A source, buy a dual-output converter right off the bat. They aren't any more expensive.

If you want to hardwire, i found this plugs into the harness for the 12v cigarette outlet.

Update: I went ahead and just ran a micro USB to the USB port . It turns off when you turn of the truck.

Sounds like the cigarette lighter plug is fine too

I just sat in my truck for 15 minutes waiting for my led usb port to turn off.......OCD in me had to unplug the usb.
