I think this is the correct place to post this since it would be an exterior mod.
I want to swap to an antenna shark fin I prefer that look without the actual antenna mast like the maverick and bronco have.

I've come to realize every current ford aside the bronco sport and maverick use a different shark fin with just two wire and one connection. The maverick has three wires two connections. Does anyone know what that 3rd purple shell wire is for? HD radio? Satellite radio?
Here’s what it looks like and what a 2023 escape antenna looks like that I’m eying on eBay to try and swap. I did this swap a long time ago on my 2016 fiesta st with a 2016 explorer antenna and it worked flawless.
Top two pics are maverick antenna and bottom is escape.

thanks in advance

Following along because this was something that I was wondering as well. Someone mentioned the Escapes having antennas in the rear windows too but I thought that was just the defroster.

I think that the purple is the AM/FM which feeds the mast antenna. The Maverick got a mast antenna because "truck". The escape has the equivalent on its glass somewhere.

I don't use the AM/FM so I got the shortest stubby I could find.

Reception is degraded significantly, but it's been a year and I haven't missed it. I have the factory antenna in the glove box for a quick change if I needed to.

Interesting, I am all for aesthetic mods but I’m not willing to sacrifice functionality in this case, as nobody else really notices the longer or shorter antenna up there IMO.

Thanks I may just have to do the stubby. I don’t use am/fm a lot either I strictly listen to podcasts via iPhone on my drives to work but I still don’t want to lose the radio, I listen to Christmas music in December so it’s worth keeping functionality.

When you think about it, our antenna already looks like a shark fin. I changed mine to “THE STUBBY”. So far I’m very happy. No reception problems, but the I’m already a mile high.

I just keep the shorty on for around town. I keep the original in the glove box and will screw it back on for long trips if I want better distance reception.
Got the shorty for when the canoes are on top so they clear it.

Yea most of us went that route. Keep in mind there are two lengths. One that is slightly smaller and the stubby one that you see in the picture above. I got the longer one at first by accident.

My 2009 Nissan Quest had the radio antenna encased in the passenger side vent window. I always wondered 'why not have it in the drivers side vent window, too?'

Could the third wire have anything to do with the onboard WiFi hotspot?
Just a thought.

Someone mentioned it’s specifically for am/fm, I don’t know I’m just repeating what I was told.

I apologize because I tried to find the post but I am struggling, where someone very knowledgeable has made a few scarce comments about this stuff. It's like the one thing they come on the forum to do, and their post on this issue was very informative. I've searched and searched and nothing is showing up, and sometimes we get lucky with the "similar threads" below the comment section here but it's not coming up with the results to clarify what that 3rd wire does. I'll keep an eye out or maybe that person will show up in this thread eventually and help shed some light on the issue for us.
