Amazing work on that enclosure! Now he just needs to spend a little more and buy a better sub ;)

There will always be a better sub than the one you own. I've been caught up in "better" before and it led to a system in a prior car where I'd almost put in more time, money, and effort than what I paid for the car new.

I'd competed in USAC and IASCA for sound quality with the system in this car back in the day. Spent two years of my life building that system. The Pioneer sub is just fine for this purpose. Any equipment can sound good and there are plenty of examples on these forums of owners enjoying audio gear they purchased regardless of brand name or price. And with the time I'll be spending on tuning and optimizing, I have no doubt that this will give me exactly what I want in the Mav.

Plus, the Mav does work. My killer system is currently in my car that does fun.

I'll take the red one please!! You are absolutely right, there's always something better. I was just thinking that masterpiece of an enclosure you built deserves a little better sub is all :) The pioneer shallow mounts are decent for what they are, but the tech has come so much farther since that sub was designed(and pioneer tends to "fudge" on their specs), and you could probably get some noticeable improvements with a different sub. I totally get using a sub you already had though. I'm sure that one will do pretty good, thanks to your enclosure. Of course, I don't know what amp you're using, so that would definitely play a part in sub choice.

Either way, I don't want to take away from your amazing enclosure man, just awesome work!

Oh yeah, definitely. But I wish newer meant better, but it often doesn't. Seems like a company will get better at making things more cheaply, and making those cheaply-constructed things sound pretty decent. A selling point like that doesn't make it compelling enough to me as a consumer so I don't mind equipment with some mileage on it that may not be the newest and "best", especially if it gives me what I'm looking for.

Hah, you're going to love the vintage Polk Audio components (the initial Mobile Monitor and Mobile SDA series from the 1990s) that'll be going in as well. For those - great sound doesn't get old. We're gonna see what they can do in the Mav. With the time correction & EQ ability of a modern DSP, I can't wait to hear how they sing. Or wail & scream, depending on the listening mood.

Dude, I LOVE the vintage polk audio stuff! They have such a nice mellow sound. I actually have a pair of polk monitor 11Ts from the 80s in my living room right now(I did rebuild the crossovers and replace the tweeters with silk dome). I'm running a pair of polk 4" in my rears on my truck for rear fill, but dynaudio components up front.

You'll be able to make magic happen with the DSP, especially with the time correction!
