Since my Mav spends a lot of time in the airports long term lot, I decided to start it this morning from the app to charge the battery. Last month I got a deep sleep message and although it started right up, I was hoping to avoid it this month.
So I started it with the app knowing it will automatically shut down after 15 minutes. Now, about 13 hours later I open the app and it says it’s running! What? Do I trust the app? I hit the stop button and it says it turned it off. Anyone else run into this? According to the fuel range it went from 176 to empty to 153 till
empty so I have to assume it was in fact running all day, or at least alternating between running and electric..yikes!

Yikes is right!

Yeah, I think the hybrid will just cycle on-off and not trip the 15min. shutoff relay.

Should have just let it deep sleep until you got back.

If you only used 23 miles worth of fuel, could be a small price for a fully charged battery if it actually ran for 13 hours. I think however, it would use more fuel over 13 hours even cycling between ICE and electric mode. I don't think running only15 minutes would use 23 miles of fuel. I assume the computer uses the last several miles of fuel consumed to calculate miles remaining, so maybe it really did not run that long. The 0 MPG it got on the fifteen minute run may have lowered your estimated range by 23 miles.

Makes sense Waterick, thanks. More concerned about hurting something on the Mav, I only have about 1700 miles on it and if it was idling all day that can’t be good for it. I have to assume the ICE kicked in to charge the battery sporadically during the day if at all.

I have hybrid lariat. I never used the app to start it, the wife did two or three times. I would monthly put mine in ready status to charge the 12v. The ice would cycle on and off to recharge the HVB 30%-40% soc. After 1.5 hours when the 12v would get charged and I had lights, radio, etc off the ice would cycle on for something like 6-8 minutes every 45 minutes. But the truck was active and timer was running without using much gas. I never let it run past 2-2.5 hours. However after the BCM (23E09?) update the truck turns ready status off and stops after the 15 minutes. I don't know if there is a menu setting to turn extended run time back on. I use my noco genius 5 on the under hood pins for three days about every 4-6 weeks. Never had a deep sleep notification but don't use Ford pass either. Truck has never failed to start in 23 months and 26k miles.

I can corroborate with MakinDo...

Once warmed up, in a 60 -65 degree climate... mine only runs 3 or 4 minutes per 45 minutes with no accessories turned on. Burning half a gallon in 13 hours, totally feasible.

I did mine with the key in, with the truck on parked, simply to recharge a weak 12v battery while being away from grid power. The programming only needs to keep the HV battery above 30% and the engine above 120°F. Not hard to do on a 65 degree day.

So on the other hand MAYBE it was on for 13 hours. I don't know what to tell ya.

🤷🏻‍♂️

There is a setting in the menu for this. I have mine set to 10 minutes. Regardless if I start it with the App or the Remote after 10 minutes it shuts off. There have been a few times that I've sat in my truck waiting on someone and after 30 minutes it will tell me it is going to shut down and I have the option to extend the time. I just don't see how given my experience that it is possible to let one run that long without an auto shut off. The only except would be how you have it set in the menu.

Doubtful it ran that long. There is a setting you can disable in the gauge cluster menu that allows it to run for longer than 10 or 15 minutes (I think 10 is the default) but you'd have to get in and physically do this after every single startup.

The app is just lazy and unresponsive.

Yeah, the app says it will automatically shut down in >15 minutes and it can be extended to 30 minutes. I didn’t extend it and made an assumption that 15 minutes was the total time on. If was 15 minutes of ICE running then yeah, it could feasibly be “on” all day. Was plenty warm in Texas since I left. Ill play with it when I get home..

I think however, it would use more fuel over 13 hours even cycling between ICE and electric mode.
In the Hybrid, how often the ICE will run may vary, depending on whether the HVAC was on, and its settings.
