I had a VERY strange thing happen with my 2024 Maverick this week...

I was driving at highway speed, 60-65 mph when several warning lights & messages appeared. The truck started sputtering and I saw the low oil pressure warning, the emergency brake assist warning and some other warning messages that went by too fast. Check Engine light, etc. all went on and off randomly.

I got off the freeway as soon as I could, pulled into a parking lot, and shut everything off. Waited a few minutes, then restarted. As soon as I put it into reverse, the RPMs started to fluctuate, and after a few seconds the engine stalled. I repeated this several times, but could not back out of the parking spot. I let it sit for about 20 minutes, and it started up fine, no more warning lights or sputtering.

Wednesday about 5:30 PM, drove 8-9 miles and left it in a parking lot for an hour and a half, started normally, and no issues with reverse.

Thursday about 8:30 AM I drove the same route as Monday. No issues or warnings on highway. Parked for about 20 minutes, but when I started up and put it in reverse. Same issue with RPMs bouncing and stalling. I was able to back out by pressing on the accelerator while backing out.

Right now it is at the dealership for diagnosis. The only code they found was something about the forward camera being blocked. The windshield was pretty clean, so not sure what that's about. Anyway, they will have it for a few days to do some research. They set me up with a loaner - a 2024 F-150.

Has anyone had anything similar to this happen? It's '24 Mav, AWD, 2.0t, 4k tow XLT Luxury pkg.

sorry to hear about this.

I would imagine they will look at the battery, alternator and connections first. a lot of errors will occur if the system is not getting sufficient stable voltage.

let us know what the problem ends up being.

Update: Dealer found that a wire was routed incorrectly, and was chafing against "something". They are going to replace it and route it correctly. I'm going to ask them to show me when I pick it up, so I'll get more details.

The person who called me said something like "it was put together badly." Good grief!! That's the LAST thing I need to hear. Hopefully he's referring to this one specific part and not everything...I'll be asking for clarification on that as well...

😑

I am not that surprised. If something important is shorting to ground, or has a bad ground, you can definitely get some serious errors.

I actually am surprised they diagnosed it that fast. I've found that many dealerships and independent garages are pretty weak at electrical troubleshooting.

Not a good experience by any means! Very freaky. Glad to hear the initial prognosis was something easily corrected, but that won't erase the fear of it happening again for some time.

They weren’t sure they could even get it in before tomorrow so I’m pretty surprised too! I’ve been a customer at this dealership for years and they’ve always been good to me. 👍
