Subwoofers NOT under the rear seat

I'm working on upgrading my standard audio system, and want to add a subwoofer. I don't want to put it under the rear seat - I want to use that space for actual storage. Anyone have pics or details of alternate locations like behind the rear seat or under the front seats? Thanks!

There's a bracket to mount one on driver side, and I have a "slim" Pioneer powered sub that could fit behind the passenger side (but it's mounted in other vehicle).

I have this subwoofer enclosure mounted behind the front seat. It limits the rearward travel about 1-2" inches but it's fine for my seating position or I'd just move it to the passenger side.

I won't be much help since I ended up having the subwoofer placed under the back seat.

In the first audio system iteration, the audio engineering shop placed a woofer enclosure behind the rear seat. The problem was creating an enclosure with decent sound "sharpness" and low-end frequency response.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of this setup before sending it back for a redesign.

I believe the enclosure was too small and too thin. I suspect you will need an enclosure that is relatively wide and tall to compensate for the lack of depth.

I don't use the underseat storage. I authorized them to construct and install a custom enclosure using the entire space under the passenger side of the rear seat. They installed a subwoofer amplifier on the bracket behind the rear seat backrest.

Kicker HS10 and numerous other 10" (or 8") powered subs fit behind the rear seat backrest. You aren't doing anything with that space. Many remove the B&O amp bracket - which is oddly present but not used in non-B&O trucks - but some have mounted them on the floor pan, center, or driver's side low.

I'm in process with my Kicker HS-10 Install. Here are a couple pics of my set up. I used a simple piece of hardware store steel flat bar drilled and bent / formed as needed. Using the two child seat anchor bolts for the upper mount. I am waiting for my sound deadening material to come in and a few other misc install supplies, before I can complete and finalize it. It's still a work in progress as time allows, but I have not seen it done like this yet on the forum. The seat closes and latches properly & I don't feel anything hitting when latching the seat back. I bent the other half of the "butterfly bracket " back against the wall. I may trim it off when I finalize everything. Hope this helps or gives you an idea. I will probably post when I get it all done.

I would not expect high output at extremely low bass 20-30hz. The thread linked above did fill it with a dsp, but I don't think he ever commented on how much SPL the system can produce (look at the question I asked in reply #24 in that thread), I think he just said it's loud enough for him... which is totally reasonable, but a number is kinda useful for the rest of us.

If it's not enough you can always remove and resell, and put a sub box in one of the bench tubs. That's what I have.

that woofer wants .5ft3 sealed and the premade box is a little smaller (.45ft3, minus the woofer's displacement) so it might underperform a little bit, but I think would be fine.

overall looks pretty good except for the 6.5 components and coaxials both being listed. I would personally leave the rear speakers alone, but if you do want to replace them they are 4" and can fit most 4x6.

I was wondering about those coaxials myself. I would double check with the shop to make sure they aren't charging you for something they won't use. As colinl says, the groudshaker will probably be okay, but a little more airspace would be much better for the low stuff. The Sound Desicions enclosure would likely sound a bit better since it is .6+ cubic feet, but it is also $100 more too. Fortunately, your build includes a DSP, so that gives you a lot more flexibility and is definitely a good thing.
