Just received a recall notice regarding my 2022 hybrid having an "improperly functioning emission-related diagnosis system". According to Ford, it's a powertrain software error, so the fix should be simple, no?

Thanks for adding this information to the thread. Very helpful. Now I know to ask the dealer what all gets fixed. I'll have to see if any dealers near me do mobile service. That would be ideal. Thanks! It's just updating a number of the modules (PCM, ABS, BECM, SOBDM). See this thread. If your dealer does mobile service they should be able to; most report about 30 minutes to complete. If you need to take it in they may estimate longer.
Also since it means updating the ABS and BECM to the latest version it means the "grabby brakes" and "engine start/shutdown rattle" fixes get loaded as well.
That's a very odd recall. To be honest, I prefer the analog gauges, but then if all the horses were the same, it wouldn't be a race.Recalls always scare me. I have never had any real issue after being repaired, but my daughter bought a new Buick Regal back in the 80's. The dash was digitally beautiful and that is what sold her. After the recall, all the digital gauges and read-outs were replaced by ugly analogs and she never enjoyed driving that car again. She could not wait to get rid of it.
I too am concerned about mileage. That is a game I play with myslelf, to try to get the best mileage possible and right now, it is pretty mundane at 38.1 mpg. But, I keep telling myself that it is much better they the 12-14 I got from the Sport Trac Flex fuel that I just sold. I live in a bedroom community and do not have a lot of the stop and go traffic that seems to get the best mileage. I am hoping that my November 1923 hybrid was manufactured long after the recall had been corrected. This recall wouldn't affect fuel economy in any way, right? I had it done with other recalls and the tech couldn't even answer what the recall did. He said "something with emissions and gas milage" which made me nervous. I get a solid 44mgp average year-round and don't want to see that drop because they adjusted the map to meet some kind of U.S. regulation or something.
I did notice it got rid of the engine rattle on shut down -- happy about that!
"Waiting for parts" . . . standard response from Ford dealers across the nation. Please. I can't imagine what parts they're talking about. Replacing a crankshaft and whatever else is failing would be more labor intense and riskier than just replacing the engine seems to me.FYI - Just took in the Hybrid for the emission software update recall and asked about the oil leak causing fires recall, that was awaiting parts, and was told Ford is still waiting for parts for the engine fire recall...Also had 2 recalls that needed to be done that I have never received letters on.
You are correct. Ford indicated so in its letter that it was a software reprogramming issue. Some dealers even have a mobile service which in this case would most likely work. I have another issue with mine, (besides the sleep mess) so I think I'll just bring it in and see if I can get them to fix all. With this recall everything is done by computer I know of two Hybrids (mine included} that would go to sleep after sitting for a few hours. Mine went back to the dealer to correct the battery charge level reading or something like that.
The fire issue recall is a metal plate that needs vent holes (extremely minor recall) but I've heard there have been 3 reported fires out of 30,000? I do keep a gasoline fire extinguisher in the Marvrick."Waiting for parts" . . . standard response from Ford dealers across the nation. Please. I can't imagine what parts they're talking about. That was the first fire recall and doesn't require any new parts, just modification of the existing shield. The fix for the second fire recall still hasn't been released. The fire issue recall is a metal plate that needs vent holes (extremely minor recall)....Ford is probably prioritizing this part for new production trucks.
My dealer says that has changed and Ford Corp's direction was a new plate. Apparently some dealer tech's were drilling holes and causing problems and not correctly fixing the problem but making is worse..Ford wanted it fixed correctly by the book, with a suppliers new plate. That was the first fire recall and doesn't require any new parts, just modification of the existing shield. The fix for the second fire recall still hasn't been released.
