Appreciate those thoughts. Any particular reason you'd prefer aftermarket?
usually can find them cheaper. Install it myself vs paying $100+ to have dealer installed.

Also, won’t we have Ford points we can use toward accessories and things? I think I’d rather do that. It may make it more worth it.
oooo valid point. Ford does have that point system now.

I will go aftermarket for the tonneau cover and use my points towards better floor mats and mud flaps most likely.

Since thus far the bulk of forum members haven't ordered ANY tonneau cover, is that due to preferring the aftermarket or just no such cover at all?
I’m planning on buying a 12’-13’ fishing kayak next summer so I’m going to wait for Yakima to come out with some bed rails for the maverick which will allow me to transport the kayak without it taking up the bed or sticking out the back. I know they typically work with a couple of tonneau manufactures who make covers that are compatible with the Yakima rails. That’s what I’m going to wait for. Might have to pick up a cheap soft cover to get me through the first winter and then sell it.

With Yakima prices, those racks and hard cover are probably going to push $3000😜

I think that there are a lot of buyers like me that have ordered the soft top. I ordered a loaded XLT. I want the factory to install the top properly and most importantly, will be covered under the car's warranty. I will admit, most of the XL bare-bones orders will probably not add an additional $560, they only want the cheapest cost.

I can absolutely see that. For me it's going to come down to the First Edition with the soft trifold cover with my build or the "regular" Lariat with the hard roll-up cover (if it's the aluminium-backed kind) with my build because I, honestly, don't want to mess with it later.

I would caution everyone about tri-folds. If you’ve never owned a truck before you may not be aware that they are a bed eater when folded up. You will lose about a half foot of your already short 4.5’ bed. Guys come to my work all the time trying to load their F150 short beds with stuff only to realize they have to completely remove the tonneau and put it in the backseat to get their load to fit in the bed. I can only imagine that being an even worse problem with the even shorter bed of the maverick.

That's another reason I'm strongly leaning towards the hard roll-up cover....

I just want to see them/use them first to see what works best, what is easiest for me, etc. I have almost zero experience with tonneau covers and I hate spending money that I later regret.
Same here...zero experience . My son has a soft roll-up on his F150 that he got aftermarket. It attaches with velcro on the sides. He likes it so I dunno. I currently have the hard roll-up ordered but may delete and wait and see.

Yeah, I have been reading about others’ experience here and some say the trifold collects water between the panels making it really heavy, some say the trifold is the best/lightest, or the rollup takes up less space overall… I can’t decide! May go for the rollup like you. Sounds like a good mix of everything.

I would advise looking around to see if any dealerships have F-150s or Rangers with soft- and tri-fold tonneaus. The way they work should be basically the same as Maverick.

While this is true, the tri-fold also unsnaps pretty easily, and is surprisingly light. Not difficult to just toss out of the way on those occasions that you NEED the full space of the bed.

The trifold does remove fairly easily, I just think a rolling soft tonneau is superior to the soft trifold in almost every way. It’s only real advantage is being easier to deploy with a single person. All I know after having many years of experience dealing with tonneau covers is that I would never ever buy a trifold unless it was a hard trifold and even that has been made obsolete by the rolling hard cover in my opinion.

I will be waiting for an aftermarket rollup tonneau. I was researching the TONNOSPORT and Vanish tonneau for the Ranger and they can bought for under $350. I like these tonneau covers as they mount between the rails and are virtually flush with the top of the rails. I think I can put an aluminum topper on the Maverick without needing to remove one of these tonneaus. I only need a topper occasionally, and it would be ideal if I did not have to remove the tonneau.

Big fan of the Diamonback bed cover, contacted them to see if they will be offering a cover for the Maverick. (I have my Ridgeline cover for sale.) Their covers are HD and very secure. Posting the response I received below.

Question: Do you plan on offering a cover for the 2022 Ford Maverick pickup? If so when do you expect it to be available? Have one of your covers on my Honda Ridgeline, and would like to get one for the Maverick I have on order. Thank you for a fine product and great service.

Hi Les -
Thanks for reaching back out. Our goal is to be able to offer one for the Maverick, however we will not know if it is possible until we get our hands on one to test fit and assess. The rails coming down from the cab onto the bed rails could pose an issue, so not 100% sure at this time, but hoping so, fingers crossed. We'll keep you posted.

Thank you!
