I’ve seen the ability on ForScan to adjust tire circumference in order to fix inaccurate speedometer readings if you size up/down from stock tire size.

I had a thought. What if somebody adjusted the tire circumference to, say, half of the stock number. Would that in effect allow you to halve the mileage on your odometer with the understanding that speedometer readings would be also halved?

Obviously it wouldn’t retroactively reduce your odometer reading, but if you did it the day you got the truck it would double your warranty period.

My only concern is that it would mess with other systems in the truck like the transmission etc. that might rely on speed readings. Idk, like I said I’m just thinking out loud. Any thoughts?

“A person may not (1) advertise for sale, sell, use, install, or have installed a device that makes an odometer of a motor vehicle register a mileage different from the mileage the vehicle was driven, as registered by the odometer within the designed tolerance of the manufacturer of the odometer;

(2) disconnect, reset, alter, or have disconnected, reset, or altered an odometer of a motor vehicle intending to change the mileage registered by the odometer;

(3) with intent to defraud, operate a motor vehicle on a street, road, or highway if the person knows that the odometer of the vehicle is disconnected or not operating; or (4) conspire to violate this section or section 32704 or 32705 of this title.”


A truck with 50k miles on it will have noticeably less wear than that of one with 100k. Any car dealer, mechanic, or buyer who knows the least bit about cars will see through your scam and report you.
And even if someone still buys your truck after these "modifications" and finds out later, you're still liable and guilty of fraud.

Lots of mods are illegal. And I mentioned in my post that in this hypothetical it would be with the understanding that the speedometer would be halved so 15mph on the dash equals 30mph and 30mph on the dash equals 60mph

You're not putting on a fancy body kit or tuning the turbo to get more horsepower.

You're modifying your truck to be dishonest at the expense of anyone who buys your truck after you.

Used car dealers who modify odometers are scum, you would be no different even if your intentions are just to get a "longer warranty."

Nobody.

It's just a question and a theory, that's all. Don't make it so personal. Plus, there is the ability to change it back to normal IF someone decides to sell. All that was mentioned was "warranty period". At that point - who cares. You assumed worst case scenario and none of it was mentioned in the OP's post. It's no different than the massive amount of people who tow then sell a vehicle as "low mileage". We can all agree on that - but the fact is not a single word about selling was even mentioned until you decided to shame OP.

If selling - be honest, change it back (get it fixed to show normal and honest numbers). If using it for warranty - who tf cares. That corporation certainly doesn't care about you.

I almost responded with the exact same thing, but realized he's not actually changing the tire size but changing what size the vehicles thinks the tires are. By the tires then being bigger than the vehicle thinks they are, they roll less revs per actual (real)mile and it'll record less miles.

It is a head scratcher, though.

it’s definitely a counterintuitive concept but if you reduced the tire size it would record less miles when your actual tires are bigger. I’ll give a hypothetical example.

Say your actual tire circumference is 90 inches but you tell the truck’s computer it’s 45.5 inches. Every revolution of the tire your truck is going to think you’ve only traveled 45.5 inches when you’ve actually gone 90 inches. Do that a bunch of times and eventually you’ve gone 1 mile and your truck thinks you’ve gone .5 miles
