That's totally fair. I'll own that. I should have phrased that way more delicately. My thought process is that Ford and all the other OEMs are in deep financial distress in the sense that they have to fund this incredibly expensive BEV transformation over the next decade. ICE has to fund that. More than a few industry observers expect at least one major OEM to go under if they don't handle things just right...
I’m afraid my beloved MOPAR is already on the way. They’ll at least try and push some eurocrap on us before the end.
Very sad thought.

The only way you're going to get a stick these days, is if it's part of a "theft deterrent system" ;)

So true, I tried to sell my 1996 Ranger to a High School kid today and he said he had only ever driven a stick one time. I took him for a ride just the same all the time wondering how does he plan to get this home?

I'm early 40's, so tail end millennial. I only drove autos until I bought my first car when I was 16, back in high school, second car (college) was also a stick, and girlfriend in college drove a stick ranger.

My parents (boomers) only had autos for me to learn on when I was 15.

AWD hybrid 2k over 24 prices and plugin at 35k. Just speculating here.
I thought Ford was not impressed with plug in sales. Now a Raptor Maverick with a factory tune freeflow exhaust tune, maybe a bigger turbo.

I guess we're just going to have to agree that we both have vastly different understanding of the meaning "deep financial distress" as you have failed again to produce any articles or links that back up your claim that Ford is in "deep financial distress".

The fact that Ford's BEV program is not profitable yet is news to.....nobody. Ford has long maintained their BEV vehicles would not become profitable until 2026 at the earliest. They have not changed that target.

  • Tires have to be matched. If you blow one with semi-worn tread, you now bought an entire set
  • Less mpg
  • More complexity, things to break

Lots of bad reasons to go AWD IMO

And I drove FWD in the NE for a decade
+1 Unless you are drag racing or off-roading, AWD is a headache. I'll stick to FWD (with snow tires for the winter), in the Utah mountains.

While it would be cool to see a proper ST (not some lowering spring and sticker package), our '22 hybrid XLT was perfect for us. The hybrid, utility of a truck, and just enough room for 4 at that pricepoint was what made us order; we would not be interested in purchasing something at a higher pricepoint (even a PHEV).

Wife and I are also old millenials. The Maverick is actually the first car with an automatic that either of us has ever owned.

I didn't dare bring up the dirty T word in this..."discussion" on EV profitability but this is exactly why traditional manufacturers losing money hand over fist on their EV programs is not a major deal.

I would actually posture that the current market resisting the EV switch actually plays right into Ford's hands with such strong legacy and commercial sales they are not going to feel the pinch as much as an automaker who doesn't have as strong of legacy and commercial/fleet sales.

I must be a quick learner or driving a 5 speed manual isn't hard.

My first ever I FLEW to Wisconsin to purchase a rare vehicle and drove it home to Colorado solo. With 10 minutes of instructions and a trip around the block from the seller. 🤷🏻‍♂️

How about you continue to love your FWD truck and we will continue to love our AWD.
We can be a wasteful bunch.

Ford can "A Ford" to ease into the EV marketplace over a decade or more.

It's none of my business what someone else wants, just pointing out some basic facts about the downsides. Those downsides may be irrelevant to you. The auto industry has done a great job marketing AWD so now every soccer mom in California thinks they need it on their pavement-pounding crossover.
