Just for grins I’m wondering if anyone has calculated the optimal speed for hyper-miling assuming a relatively flat road. I’m guessing it’s around 45, but that’s not based in maths, science or physics. 😎

I find the sweet spot to be between 40 and 45 mph

58mph as fast as you should go for hyper muling. 40-45mph is ended a sweet spot. First 20 mpg should be on battery. They are the hardest.

Slower is always better.
But at some point slow becomes impractical.

40-45 is excellent MPG and you can actually get somewhere in a reasonable amount if time.

If strictly a contest, 20-25 mph will go even further on a gallon.

Hypermiling is a fun game to play but, honest-to-God, you've got better things to do than that. Go ahead and drive that way for one trip, maybe one tank, then just get on with your life. 42.5 MPG is doable and sustainable. That's more than good enough for me.

Agreed, and generally I just drive normally (like an old man who isn’t in a hurry), but this was one of the random things I’ve pondered. It might come in handy if I ever have to go 700 miles and don’t have enough spare change to refuel 😎

I have not done the math but.... I drive in the mountains of western NC. some are hills, but the "big one" rises from 1800'ASL (Above Sea Level) to 3200'ASL, a 1400 foot climb in the space of 3 miles. the decent goes down 1200' in 2.5 miles. I wish the Mav had a bigger battery so I would recover more energy (like my Volt does), but except for this 6 mile stretch where I go 50mph I drive the other 33 miles of my commute at 59mph. The dashboard says Y am getting 47mpg, but it is optimistic. I filled up this morning and did the math and I am actually averaging 44.7mpg per tank. Some of this driving is in the hills of northern Georgia where the guesstimater says I am getting 52mpg (at 59mph). I look forward to checking my mpg on an extended stretch of 45mph roads.

You live in one of my top 5 favorite areas of our country. Beautiful views and all 4 seasons! Edit: I agree with you about a larger battery, hoping for either future factory option for a larger battery or possibly an aftermarket add-on. That could potentially make huge increases in fuel efficiency….

I would love to see the data on this. I've had my Maverick for 18 months, and for me (as well as others) its 40-45,

A bigger battery wouldn't much, the Maverick is much more fuel-efficient with the current battery size. Remember having a bigger battery means you need to recharge that battery. But hills will always kill MPG.

It is a game, that is why I love it when I get 800 miles per tank. 900 is not feasible, but 800 sure is.

I'll have to take your word for that. I can get 500 easily enough, but I haven't quite gotten 600 yet.
