Looking for recommendations on the best inexpensive low profile roll up tonneau cover, if such a thing exists.

Really don't want to spend $700 + for a 4 ft roll of canvas.
You can get a really cheap one but you get what you pay for. Good luck.

We wanted an aluminum lockable retractible cover and went with the Syneticusa Retractable Hard Tonneau. It's a Retrax Pro copy cat. But at 949 less than half the price of the Retrax. Five year warranty versus lifetime.

I bought a hard shell one from Amazon and I’m gladI did.

Only had my truck a little over a month and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve already set stuff on it. Seems like I set my work bag on it every morning when my hands are full.

I installed the Oedro fold up soft cover on mine till I get a hard fold up cover. I know you are looking at roll up covers but the price of $162 for the fold up was hard to beat.

Is it lockable?
As long as your tailgate is lockable. You must open the tailgate to release the tension on the tonneau cover to roll it up, or access anything in the bed.

That is the one I got and am quite pleased with it. Seems to be water tight even when I pressure washed it.

I have the same one (MaxMate) on order. First time trying a roll-up soft cover. I had a "First Edition" Maverick with the factory tri-fold soft cover, but I didn't like the fact that I had to remove it so often in order to carry longer items in the bed... (And usually just a couple of inches taller than would fit under the cover - so frustrating!)

I was originally planning to purchase a quad-fold hard cover, but was appalled at the prices... I decided I would try this one first (at less than 1/5th the cost) and see how I like it. I've seen lots of folks here on MTC that are happy with the MaxMate cover, so hoping for the best!

Pretty much ALL tonneau covers "lock" - at least to the extent that you cannot easily open them when the tailgate itself is locked... But even a cheap knife will cut through a soft cover (folding OR roll-up), so I wouldn't store my wife's jewelry in the bed... :sneaky: The main thing they provide is "visual security" by preventing potential thieves from easily seeing what is in the bed. If they are motivated enough to pry up the side of the cover (folding or roll-up - both have this vulnerability) they could theoretically see in...

If you're really looking for "security" I would suggest looking at one of the aluminum sliding "tambour-type" covers (like the one that comes with some Santa Cruz trim levels) that roll up inside the bed at the front. They are expensive, somewhat heavy (reducing your payload), and take up more bed space than the other types, but they are a LOT more secure.

You can also pay a LOT for an expensive one, and still get what the guys who bought the cheap ones paid for... Quality seems all over the place with tonneau covers!

I’ve have bought several over the years and have not experienced that. But nice or pay twice.

I dont like the roll ups sometimes have to walk around the bed to pull it tight, if you never open it their ok, the tri folds are the way to go always tight. I have the ford tri fold with the emblem on it , paid about 400 sometime if you check ford website can get 20% off. And they all leak even the expensive ones, had them all.
