Unions are cancer. They hurt the brand, and it's products, customers, and most of the brands workers. Just keep in mind the main reason brands are moving manufacturing out of N. America has to do with the fact that it's getting too expensive to build stuff here. Unions are largely to blame for that. They keep pushing for more and more, their greed never satisfied, until a brand goes under or closes that plant.
Yes and slavery benefitted the enslaved. Not to mention the share croppers who gained valuable farming knowledge. The labor movement in the US built and maintained a middle class until politicians were bought out by big business starting with Regan who himself was a union president. Greedy politicians and business executives who add no long term value are a plague.

There’s proof that non-unionized companies have higher overall production than unionized over a period of many years. Most non-unionized companies today have benefits and pay that are the same or better than unionized.
Yes, Like Delta airlines vs American airlines

Is the Hermosillo plant unionized? I understand that a strike/work stoppage (might) affect parts suppply, but assembly could continue unabated barring parts shortages.
They seem to get the same holidays off as the US plants do.

You my friend are way out of line. Unions built this country. I am a proud retired union ironworker and we build skyscrapers and bridges. This country would not be what it is without unions!

There is not a person in the USA that has not benefited from the unions. You would not have a vacation, health care, your salary and a good chance that you would still have your job because of the unions. When unionized hourly get a bump up that salaried folks get some form that matches.
Even company presidents benefit from the unions.
The unions have made mistakes but so have companies.
As a manager when I had to make some changes I had the Union president standing next to me to help me make the medicine go down and help me get the people to help me rearrange jobs to get the work done with less people. Thanks to union participation this happened. I was able to reduce the head count and still get the work done. I got the employees to unhappily buy in and their input to rearrange jobs and still the work done. That would never have happened without the union president standing next to me to help explain.

By the way is this the appropriate forum for this type of posting?
We are supposed be talking about our Mavericks or the lack of Mavericks not discussing politics.

Yep, can't argue with you and I belong to one. I remember when I was visiting a steel mill for my old company. I was pushing the guys, shaming mostly and at the end of the day they told me I was lucky that they gave a good four hours, an unusually productive shift. Now the mills are gone they're having to work the whole day for a third of the pay.
The unions are a for profit organization making the officials rich.
Do you guys really think that employers would give you paid holidays, insurance, paid vacations etc. with out Unions? If so you live in LALA land. With robots doing the work labor isn't the factor it use to be. It is also cheaper land, taxes, and vendor parts.

Blind adherence to a union is as foolish as blind support for management. Historically, there have been abuses on both sides.

Like many things, unions are like a pendulum. Before unions existed there was little regulation and employers were free to abuse workers. Most of what unions originally were formed for and fought for are now law - arguably making them outdated and unnecessary, and too often as bloated and greedy as the management they rail against, exploiting their own members for political power and profit.

As unions weaken, however, employers are more likely to abuse workers again. As unions are strong, they're more likely to protect unproductive, useless members and lower the standards for work, ultimately harming the company that's paying their salary, sometimes fatally. It's a pendulum - neither unions nor business are fully good or fully bad, the best place is often where there's some tension.

Now, what does this mean for my Maverick, which is supposed to go on the line at the end of this month? Hopefully, nothing. We'll see. But it makes me a little nervous.

Unions certainly have had a positive impact on this countries economy. However many times they have now gone way overboard and created a lot of inefficiencies.

Except we shouldn't call it greed to want a pay raise that at least matches inflation. If it doesn't, your basically losing money year by year.
