This might give you guys an idea of what’s happening on the dealer scene right now: The dealer I placed my order with on the 1st of September (I still have no official response from Ford on my build order) called me about a MAV that showed up as a stock order. I turned it down, mainly because it had the FX4 package. It was also a color I didn’t want, but otherwise it was the fully-loaded Lariat, which I want - bummer. I would not have expected a high-end build to show up on a lot right now, but that told me that builds other than low-to-mid-level are being sent as stock to some dealers. That situation yanked my chain, and made me think I should check around and see what other nearby dealers were getting. Might get lucky.

Long story short - I called every other dealer within 100 miles to see what inventory might be out there now, and these are the responses I got:

The dealer I had placed my build order with was the only one who had actually received a vehicle (made me feel like I had made the best dealer choice). None of the other dealers had yet received anything. One said they had a couple enroute but those were only low and mid-level builds. Every sales person I talked to gave me the lecture about the chip shortages, and how it was likely to be 6 months or more before I could get a vehicle. They all tried to get me to place an order. They all emphasized that inventory would already be spoken for when it arrived, or would go out the door within minutes. In other words - I felt the pressure tactics.

None of these dealers sounded like they knew anything more about the MAV than I did, and a couple sounded like they knew much less! And they all spoke over me, making it hard for me to get a word in about MY needs (another plus for the dealer I chose - MUCH better bedside manner). They all felt like stereotype car sales people. I requested they all call me if something shows up on the lot. I did not get into what their sales policy would be, but I sensed that they were going to be pretty unwilling to throw a deal my way. They had demand on their side (another plus for my dealer, who accepted my offer immediately).

The general feeling I was left with was that unless you are willing to take something that shows up on a lot right now it’s all a crap shoot. I really don’t think the dealers are able to get more out of this mess Ford has created than we are. I guess those in the know, who post videos and are saying this is the worst time ever to be buying a vehicle, are right. Makes me feel a bit of a fool.

My dealer is excited about mine. I am the first hybrid they have scheduled to arrive. They are as giddy about seeing it as I am......eventually I will have to break their hearts that I am the only one to drive it.....

I had the same experience. They have an EB arriving this week that they are letting me come sit in before they give it to the buyer(makes me wonder if they are gonna try and do the same with my hybrid) but I was one of the first hybrid orders at their dealership and they are counting down just as I am.

Here’s a follow-up: minutes after posting this I get a call from one of the dealers I mentioned. Said they had a cancelled Lariat with FX4 - this one actually in my color, Cactus Gray. Just for grins I asked for the window sticker. It was an XLT trim, NOT a Lariat! Even the sales people have no idea what they’re selling! I paying the price now, they’re bugging me about placing an order

Similar experience: one dealer near me had just received a demo unit that was not yet available to see but all the rest said they were enroute for a November delivery. Told me they would put me on their long list of people they'll call once the demo comes in. Did that and immediately got harassed to place an order now (I already have one - just want to see it) because it will be 4-7 months wait.

One dealer began asking if I had a trade (2012 model year or newer) - without a newer trade, the "price might be higher"

I guess I feel lucky. My dealer is very helpful. He doesn't appear to be any more knowledgeable about the Ford Maverick ordering or scheduling issues/delays than us here, but when I asked if they had a cyber orange vehicle I could view he said they were expecting a Bronco in soon and he would call me so I could see it. Then as the conversation continued, he asked where I worked and offered to drive over to my place of work so I could see the color. He said that I will really enjoy the color and seemed very eager to help me. Never once tried to sell me something else or even offer the Bronco. I would not have taken the offer anyway because I really want a Maverick truck.

I was able to secure a retail Shadow Black XLT 2.0 with AWD and 4k towing package from a dealer 2 hours away from me yesterday. It is one of 2 they are getting and they need to keep it on the lot for 2 weeks before I can take it, but I secured one. There were a few retail ones around the Midwest after calling a bunch of dealers, but very few had the 4k tow package. I was just about to place an order and would have chosen a different color, but I have an older escape that needs replaced before I put anymore money into it.

I laughed at my dealer when they tried the 'chip shortage' angle. This doesn't actually affect the Mavericks overall. At most, it affects some of the control units for the Hybrid, but the reason it has Sync 3 instead of 4? They have inventory on-hand. The rest of the electronics are shared with other platforms (Bronco Sport mainly) and those are stocked as well. If you are going ICE, chips are NOT the issue.

As for salespeople, I had to tell my dealership they could place Maverick orders a week after the order banks opened (ordered mine on 6/15, banks opened 6/8). They tried to tell me I was wrong, I asked them to go check before I go to another dealer. They come back a minute later trying to play it off saying "We have good news! You don't have to wait! We can place your order today!" failing to acknowledge that I told them(and this is how I know I am the first order btw. The other 2 they had listed? "Stock" units, not "Retail" in the same column as mine showed. They tried to make it sound like they thought they were doing me a favor. After that, I've had to explain to them that the First Edition is a trim level that isn't limited in number like it was on the Bronco and offers no real upgrades beyond cosmetics and accessories, that "all Mavericks come with 4K towing" was incorrect, that there is no FX4 package on a First Edition and a slew of other things.

Salespeople are not always the experts. I get they need to make money, but the pressure tactics and shady pricing mess is going to leave you without commissions later, especially if it means other potential customers get rerouted to other dealerships who are more honest. Right now, my dealership says they are going to honor X-plan with no ADM on a Mach-e GT for a friend who is buying it to replace a lemon-law buyback vehicle (so no trade), but if that changes or they refuse to lock that in when he orders, he will be going to one of the dealerships we see post on here. I am sure one of them would love his business.

I haven't had anything pushed on me, but 95% of the frontline stock at the two nearest Ford dealers is old Chevys (Including the vehicles up on the stands), so they probably just don't have anything to push to begin with.

That’s where these forums come in handy. I was smiling silently on the phone as they rolled out the blather about chip shortage

I guess I got lucky. Unless the unthinkable disaster happens in two weeks when I pay for the truck this has been the best I’ve ever been treated by a sales person in my entire 67 years. (Jonas at Marshall Mize Ford Chattanooga)
initially when I ordered in June it was done correctly. When I pick my son up at the airport September 4 and he talked me into all wheel drive, The order was changed easily and correctly.
When I found a maverick on the Ford website that was in transit to the dealer I asked if I could just switch between my order and that one. And it was done pleasantly and quickly by text. So I’ll get a truck a couple months earlier.
This morning he sent me a message that a trainer vehicle was there and I went and looked at it and I was very impressed I can’t wait.

Could be. Thank god I have a signed order summary so they can’t try and mark up when it arrives.

Did I understand correctly that You said your Hybrid is on it way to your Dealer even though there's no EPA numbers for the hybrid.
