Finally did it! Went camping with the BamBeds platform and the Napier truck tent! First off, these two works flawlessly with one another! This is a cheaper alternative for a non permanent solution to a roof top tent and a camper shell!

The BamBeds fits perfectly even with my factory SIBL with Ford Logo. The company thought about it and made a cut out for it on one side. It feels rock solid even when I'm turning. I bought the tailgate extension to maximize usage. I keep them stacked close to the cabin to pack taller items for camping. Each platform weighs about 25lbs and unique to the Maverick, they are supported underneath by two additional stilts.

The Napier tent was trickier. I tried to install it at home for trial but was unsuccessful. It took me and my wife at the campsite to finally figure it out how it suppose to install properly. You have to really mind where the polls are situated and the rest would make sense! It will get hot during the day without the additional side windows. On one of the pictures, it shows I added a 10x10 canopy on top of it and it cooled the inside of the tent dramatically.

Key take aways. Absolutely a solid choice again for a cheaper solution for overlanding. The beds doesn't take much storage and the tent fits snug and does hold up even in a relatively high wind!

Only few things to keep in mind. Just like the roof top tent, you're gonna have to break the tent down if you need to use your truck for whatever reason. So plan accordingly.

Would I buy it again having this knowledge? Hard to say. It works well even with the hard roll up tonneau cover. For a solo camping definitely yes but for a family camping, you really have to be creative with packing your gears making sure you have everything you need when you get to your camp site.

PM me if anyone wants them for a cheaper price than buying them brand new. Only used it once. Local pick up only around LA.

This is one of those, "Hey I used this once and now I'm dumping it" posts. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the setup. I've been ground tent camping 3 times in Maverick. Works perfectly. Not really sure who "overlands" a Maverick. I'm sure there's a few...

Thanks for sharing. I like your setup. I too have the same tent but never thought about adding the canopy. Pretty cool idea. Do you mind listing the link where you bought it so I can look into it? Also, did this blue canopy over your tent, have any particular way of staying secure during wind like rope stakes or sandbags? Thanks again.. P.S. I've setup my tent twice and it was tricky too, but it gets easier.

Reflective bubble-wrap secured over the top/sides of the tent will also keep a tent, camper shell or pop-up much cooler. Also helps hold in heat, if camping where it gets cool at night.

Very few people do. It's just a fancy way to say "I've spent a lot of money on camping equipment". 😉

Imo, tents like these and the "cheap" rooftop tents are generally not worth the money.

Just google Bambeds for the beds and Napier tent for the tent. The canopy is just a generic Target bought

Not a one and done. Just not suitable for family use. For single or couple camping it would be ideal.

With kids, you tend to pack a lot and there's always the unexpected. I would choose this again over an expensive rooftop tent. Maybe not over camper shell which I'm currently looking into.

Would be nice to have a real world review of a torrential downpour on one of these. The roof rails on the cab lead water straight back into the bed.
That's why you park on a tilt or use a jack under the hitch. Really you do have to watch how you park when sleeping on your vehicle.

I had a RTT for a while to replace my burnt up van. I liked it but it was work. This guy's setup may be less work. Now I'm working on something that really suits our lifestyle better.

We haven't been actual camping since my wife's first chemo treatment 4 years ago. Camping is fun we know, we live in a 12x16 off grid cabin in the jungle, we poop in a bucket just like every good camper. But we have a sleep number bed that my wife absolutely loves so beach days is more of our version of camping.

We already have a hitch mounted 8ft umbrella rated for 60mph winds. Now I want to add a homemade rig to support either a single large hammock or 2 hammock chairs depending on the mood all shaded below our umbrella. Dogs can relax in the ARE MX topper and the new Ryobi fridge freezer will keep drinks cool until it's time to eat the food we packed in the morning.

If we do end up actually staying out overnight again, I think a SUV tent paired with our topper will do nicely.

Recreation is intended to be fun, not so serious. I set this up alone, it's just 3 poles for a wife demo, and note that it is shovel ready. She says that would be OK for a serving of sparkling wine sometime.
