Anyone having any issues with the factory brake pads and rotors? I just got back from the dealership and my front brake pads cracked and rotors were warped. They machined the rotors and replaced the brake pads under warranty, but said to keep an eye on it. 9k miles hybrid xlt, should I push to have the rotors and all brake pads replaced? It is my first new vehicle, but it seems crazy to have this from a brand new vehicle from the factory.

Like they said, keep an eye on it. I much prefer, and have had better luck with resurfaced rotors as long as they are not in too bad of condition when resurfaced. They have been through many heat cycles and are less prone to warping again.
Was it just one rotor/brake pad position that had an issue? Or more?

One brake pad (front passenger side), but a few of the rotors had issues. From what they told me, "crappy brake pads and rotors were used".

typically are you a hard driver? Meaning really hard on the brakes. The rotors can warp when overheated. Better question on past gas vehicle how long did your front brakes usually last. If you say about 50K miles or more then your normal. If you say 25K then you like my brother who drives like a crazy man.

Do you brake with your left foot? I see enough people driving around with their brake lights constantly lit to wonder if that could be a contributing factor.

I wonder how many brake rotor issues others have had?

I have 8000 on my truck I’m not impressed with the way the front brakes are wearing but I am a volunteer f/f and use my truck to go to calls , I think I’m going to need brakes at at about 12 to 15 k

If you are driving a hybrid like it should be driven, you should barely ever get pad on rotor contact. Hybrids can and regularly do go 150k+ miles on the original brakes if drivers are always going for max-regen.

So it baffles me that the rotors would be warped and pads cracked after 9k miles. Did you track-day this thing at some point?

Warped rotors are from excessive heat.

Sticking calipers or hard use.

yep, and not just Sacramento heat( ha , used to live in the area).....but long downhill use, constant and aggressive use.

did you take it in for systems or did they just tell you they were bad?

I can get 40k or so out of mine. I am not crazy on the brakes and with this hybrid I have been trying to coast more and get better gas mileage. What is weird is this vehicle makes a big grunt when the brakes initiate a complete stop. No noise when I brake, but when the vehicle comes to a complete stop there is a loud creak or so. It happens when the brakes come off the rotors when going into park or when leaning off the brakes at slow speed. It is what prompted me to bring the vehicle in along with the airbag recall and an oil change at around 9k. I swear my old escort and taurus never had this noise and my wifes escape with 36k miles is super quiet.

Anyone else have noises like this? It is literally every. single. time. I brake now.
