I've done the "stuff the wheel well" game on almost every other truck/suv I've owned, I used to lie about the effects on MPG as well but the truth is, larger, wider, heavier tires have crushed MPG in my experience. Always thought it looked damn good though, guess I'm getting old by not doing that with my Maverick.
Eh even if it kills my mpg still 200% better than my current vehicle with stock sized tires at 13mpg.. soo not worried lol

But I doubt it'll drop it more than 1 or 2mpg

I'll say it again. Putting taller tires on will help fuel economy by changing the gear ratio. Changing to a much heavier or more aggressive tread pattern may offset this advantage.

Maybe if you put a slightly taller, highway, non-XL rated lightweight tire with a low rolling resistance, you might see an improvement in hwy MPG.

Putting on 245/65R17 Wildpeak AT3W 39 lb ALL-TERRAIN tires, like the truck in the video, will certainly have an adverse effect on MPG. The tires in that video are significantly heavier, wider, and more aggressive than what came on that FX4 Maverick, there's just no way whoever buys that one is getting better MPG than someone who keeps their FX4 on stock tires.

Go taller, heavier, wider, more aggressive (you know, like a lot here seem to be planning) and the results will be even more dramatic.

What's the rim width of the factory rims? If you step up to 245/65r17/XL bfg Trail-Terrain T/A the min rim width is 7".

How are those stock Pirelli's in the rain? My Jeep's Wildpeak AT3W's are the best Houston rain tire I've ever had...

Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws at 235/65r17 are 31.1 pounds (per Falken website) = I can live with just those as replacements, and they'll look identical to Wife's BS Badlands

Hi everyone from Chile, 8 more days maverick fx4 arriving. I want to change tires and ur info is priceless
I have question here is update of wheels i am goin crazy

Pirelli stock atr 225 65 17 /31 L

Peaks at3 235 65 r17 /31.1 L dolars
Peaks at3 245 65 r17 / 39 L 180 dolars

Toyo oc at3 245 65 r17 /34 L 160 dolar

Golanda g015 245 65 r17 / 34L 230 dolars

Dont want to lift maverick but maybe leveling fromt rear with a rc 1" kit 80dolar amazon and want want to get more ground clearance , with 245 i gain almost 12m [diference 065x [ 225 vs 245 ]
With 235 its a gain near 0.6m

Now tremor maverick if lift but with 235 65 17 not the 245...
I am curious why...?

I care for mpg issue or km liter here in chile and also my day a day will be mostly road city and vacation going south chile more rainly ,snow rain. Think max a month of vacation and rest year city ,trafic rainy months june to august, go sporadically to snow 1 hr from city.

If i am not goint to lift the diference from stock pirelli 31 lb to max 245....
39 lb, its 8 lb per wheels or 4 kg, maybe its to much Mpg lost?

Apreciate answers.

better thread wear over year

Toyos are lightest with geo 015 in 245 65 r17 ,geo more expensive than toyo 80 dolares each wheel.

Also

Change tire what about the spare tire here its 215 60 r17 could i fit a 235 or 245 in that rim?

Saludos!

Bienvenido a Maverick Truck Club. And that's about as much Spanish as I remember from school. 😂

I have Toyo OC 245/65R17 on my Lariat FX4. Very good balance of cost to weight/fuel consumption and being very good tires for snow, mud, and gravel on unpaved roads.

You will need a 17"x7" wheel with about +38 offset. The spare one will not work. It is too narrow for a tire the size of a 245/65R17.

My recommendation would be buy better tires first, then see how you like the upgrade, then do a lift if needed.

Hey all, question about all this. I don't know sh!t about wheels really. Just to clarify, you can go from a 225 to a 235 or 245 width tire on the stock xl wheels, right? You don't need to have a wider wheel rim?

Thanks

Correct. Just to be safe, double check that the tire size is ok on a 7" wide wheel on the manufacturer site.
