Correct. KBB trade-in is ~$20,000. I owe $15,000.I think y'all are misreading. He said he would net $5k. His Escape is probably valued much higher.

Which brings up the question if you are selling privately, is it better to replace worn tires first?First of all, they’ll find anything that devalues the trade in. If they offer you a crazy high price, rest assured, they’ll make up for it somewhere in the deal.
I agree with EVERYone about the tires, but I’m not sure your question really got addressed.
If you really want to dissect it (which would be too much work for me), find out how much a set of tires would cost, but don’t buy them. At the trade in, ask them how much more they’d give you if your trade had new tires.
THEN decide if you want to buy them.
Again—- Too much work for me.
If you want the BEST deal, sell it to someone directly.

I question if you can even expect a good trade in for a Maverick. The dealer really has no incentive and actually a disincentive to give you a good price on your trade in. Especially if it is a Maverick ordered by you which it is.Tires. My Escape needs new tires but after looking at KBB this morning, trading it in for the Maverick is a no brainer (I'm going to net ~$5,000). So, how much will the tires hurt if I don't replace them ahead of time? Will the dealer hit me for just the cost of the tires meaning my net out of pocket would be the same either way, or will the tires be discounted in the trade enough to make getting new ones beforehand worth the investment?
Glad you gave up I didn't care what your opinion was anyway.LOL
I give up
Hearing that, I hope I’ll be able to sleep tonightGlad you gave up I didn't care what your opinion was anyway.![]()

GuiltyRick and Azmig, are you trying to get this thread locked? Grow up, both of you are acting like babies.
Thanks. I personally know the garage manager at the dealership. I plan to ask what he has in his "used" tire stack. What I would prefer to do is buy a set of off-road tires for the Maverick and, since the Escape has the exact same sized tire, just have them move those tires over. But that's likely asking too much.My friend is a used car manager at a big dealership, I know for sure that his evaluator will low ball you for having worn tires. I would suggest getting "new car take off's". Around here you can find them at the smaller independently owned tire shops (or Craig's list, offer up, etc). Usually you can get a set installed for $250-$400.. that may or may not help that much, but it gives them no reason to low ball you. Condition and mileage are also big factors. I never let my tires go below half way. I take them off and sell them for a few hundred on craig's list. I have even given them away for free if the person looking at them seems deserving.
