My maverick order is finally scheduled for production (at around two years after I ordered haha). Naturally in the meantime I lost interest and bought a different vehicle. Am I correct in thinking that even if they produce it, I'm not obligated to take delivery?

I kinda want to see it in the flesh, out of morbid curiosity more than anything else.

@commadorebob is totally correct.

The dealer will make more $$$ off someone else buying it since they will be allowed to mark-it up all they want.

In a way, they will be more than ecstatic that you will not be taking delivery of your order.

No. Your dealership will be more than happy to sell it to someone else at markup.
Probably very true, maybe talk to them & say is there anything they can give you if you decide NOT to take it, so they can indeed make an extra few thousand on the deal. Maybe you can get a couple oil changes for what you do drive or some restaurant coupons.

If I'm the dealership, I call his bluff. Want it? Buy it. Don't want it? Oh well.

Buy it if you are able to and resell (flip) it for a hefty profit. Or, you may like it better than the vehicle that you bought. You have a lot of options. Best of luck!

Yeah... Be careful here... If you see it (and especially if you take a test drive) you might change your mind and decide to keep it. That's what happened to the first Maverick I was supposed to buy...

The story: The guy who originally ordered it decided he didn't want it (or couldn't afford it - not sure which), so the dealership called to offer it to me (I was one their waiting list). We signed offer sheets via email, and I gave them a deposit over the phone. All this while the Maverick was on its way to the dealership on a truck.

This dealership has a policy that if you custom order a vehicle, then back out, they require a "release" to be signed when they return your deposit. When the Maverick arrived at the dealership, the guy who had ordered it decided he wanted to "just take a look at it" before he signed the release paperwork. He was coming in that day to sign the release, so I went ahead and booked a flight for the next morning to go pick it up and drive it home...

Late that day, I got a call from my sales person, telling me there might be a problem... Seems that when he saw the Maverick, he wanted to "just take it for a short test-drive..." Then after the test drive, he decided he wanted it after all, so I was SOL... But then his credit turned out to be "not-so-good" and FoMoCo wouldn't finance him, so he was running around talking to family and other banks, etc. to line up financing. The morning I was supposed to leave, the sales person called to tell me that he had managed to get financed, and was buying the truck.

Oh well. It WAS his order, after all, so I guess that was the fair way to handle it. But it sure sucked getting my hopes up, only to have them squashed!

Perhaps in a similar vein, my gf has now told me that she might be interested in buying it instead haha, so could end up getting it after all...

I would try to get it even if not truly interested in keeping it long term. Seems flipping it wouldn't be too hard. That sucks for others on here I suppose.

My dealer sold me my 2023 Lariat with Lux & BAP at X-plan for $32,561 in March.
About a week later, I saw they had a USED 2022 XLT without much in the way of options, and 4000 miles on the clock. They want $35,879 for the XLT.

Obligated? If I would have walked away, they would have likely priced my truck at least at $40,000. Yeah, they would have been quite willing to give me back my $1000 deposit and be "forced" to sell it for more.
