I purchased the recommended dash cam, part #VHL3Z-19G490-K from the Ford Accessories website. It comes with the front and rear camera and the OBD II wiring for power. I printed the 4 page installation instructions and noted that the instructions are listed for the gas engine only and electric engine only. There is no mention of the hybrid wiring option. I have researched this specific dash cam part and only found one video posted 9 months ago from Tech Motoring with a review and installation video. This was a Ford Mach E vehicle, but he noted that it affected the hybrid models as well. It was prefaced with a warning that the OBD II wiring harness creates a issue with the dash cam. It caused the dash cam to go into the parking surveillance mode while he was driving. There is a wealth of information and experience on our forum and I would like to tap into it. Will using the OBD II wiring cause any issues with the operation of the recommended Ford dash cam system on the hybrid model? Does anyone know or have they used the Ford dash cam system for their Hybrid Maverick?

I have dashcams in 4-5 of my cars most of which are powered by the OBD2 port, but I have no experience with the Ford branded offerings.

Good luck

I used that OBD harness on my 22 Eco. When I got my 23 hybrid, I pulled the cams and harness and was going to use it for the new truck. But, at least according to the listing on Amazon, it's "Not Compatible with Electric & Hybrid Vehicles" Also, on the Thinkware web site: NOTE1: Not compatible with electric, hybrid or some gasoline-powered vehicles.

That is what I am thinking at this point and time myself. The interesting thing is that the Ford Accessories website allows you to select your vehicle year, make and model, but not whether or not it is a eco boost or a hybrid. This can create an issue for individuals such as myself that will allow me to make a mistake when choosing accessories on their website.

I ran the power down to the 12v outlet. Hidden and I don't use that except for the compressor. Simple to unplug and replug.

Thank you for your reply. I purchased the kit from a out of state Ford dealership at a reduced price. I checked on returning it, but they require a 25% restocking fee. I will be content and install the dash cam system. I will use the OBD II cable they sent and strip the wiring parts I need to run the power from the fuse box behind the glove box. I had thought about buying the direct wiring kit from Thinkware's website, but it cost 30.00. I will not worry and be happy about making what I have received work. I have heard many positive things about the actual camera's and their operation. This has taught me a lesson about doing a bit more research before I purchase things.

I just finished installing my ThinkWare 2000 (model DC-M1-FG00) I purchased from Ford a while back. I selected this model b/c it was compatible with my Maverick Hybrid. It took me a while to install it and it's working.

I didn't drive it on the road yet. Tomorrow I will give it the full test to see how it records while driving.

I got a reply from Thinkware today in regard to the OBD issue. Here's what they say: "Yes, the OBD II cable doesn't support Hybrid/Electric and Stop and Start System enabled vehicles. But the good news is OBD3 cable is coming out this last week of April which is compatible with all Electric/Hybrid and Stop-and-Start System enabled vehicles except Tesla models." I may wait and get one of these to use for installation.

That is good news. I am happy that this issue is being worked on by the manufacturer. It will be interesting to see what affect this has on the Ford accessories websites for the different dealerships. I will wait and see what happens and what the price will be for the OBD III cable. Now that there are more hybrids available, it will make it easier to provide the proper parts for their dash cam systems.

I use Garmin OBD2 power connectors on all the cameras in my vehicles (that have an OBD2 port).

It works perfectly with my Hybrid Maverick and is switch selectable for power-on time after key off.

Good luck

I'm not sure if I call it a fun project :) When using the plastic prying tools I would use lots of duck or blue tape to cover the area where the plastic prying touches....the plastic trim really scratches easily.

Let me know if you have any questions about how I routed the wires removing the trim pieces. Also, I mounted the rear camera on the top drivers side corner. You could place it in the center but I wanted the wires completely hidden....with a rear sliding window it didn't allow me to really hide the wire the way I wanted it.

Thank you for the information. My brother has not purchased his dash cam system yet. All of your information is going to help him make a better choice when he purchases one for his truck.
