I've noticed a few times when approaching a steep hill the electric motor does not hold the vehicle in slips backwards unless you have the brake hold activated
Anybody else experiencing this ?

The only things that ever hold the vehicle in place are the service brakes, the parking brake, and the parking pawl in the eCVT, just like any other vehicle - hybrid, electric, or otherwise. So, yes, you have to use the brakes, whether on a hill or not...

When you do come to a complete stop on a hill and firmly press the brake pedal, whether or not Auto Hold is enabled, Hill Start Assist will keep the brakes applied while you begin to apply the accelerator pedal in order to prevent rollback.

The rollback that I am experiencing is unusual to me.
I drive an average of 60,000 miles a year for the last 20 years

I've never had a vehicle that feels the way this is feeling

It will roll backwards slightly You can feel the It is engaged with the electric motor but it slips backwards maybe about a foot then slightly holds then slips again slightly holds slips again slightly holds something that to that effect it's very odd I'm not sure if it's the ECVT transmission or if I possibly have an issue.

This transmission is different than any other automatic transmission you've ever driven-

A regular auto always has power going to the wheels when it's in drive- which is why it creeps forward when you let off the brake. (sidenote when stopping on ice or snow putting it into Neutral can actually help stop better)

The Mav without the autohold "SIMULATES" the creep forward as soon as you take your foot off the brake by engaging the electric motor just a little bit. But if you're on a hill that won't be enough to push the vehicle forward, and will actually let the vehicle roll until you push the gas enough.

You MIGHT be experiencing the computer trying to compensate- which is why it stops then rolls then stops then rolls. But if it's an issue I would just use the brake hold.

Your truck definitely isn't broken, I haven't stopped on enough hills to have it slip then hold then slip then hold, but mine rolls back at stop signs.
