Was the driver able to push it to it's limits? How did it handle understeer/oversteer, brake fade etc.?
he was able to run a pace quicker than several porsches in the same group so that made grandpa happy (and a little surprised!).
his instructor took him out in it in an advanced group and reported back to me that he was shocked by everything about the maverick. it was quick and handled great and in sport mode the transmission functioned well on the track.
prior to the event i had flushed the brake fluid with what i had on the shelf and use in my mustang and porsches (motul 660).
after my grandsons last sessions it came in with heavy "brake smell" and i'm not sure yet if he was over braking or if traction control was just doing its job.
FYI, i had him drive it in standard mode with traction control on with only the collision assist disabled which is required by PCA. tomorrow i will let him put it in sport mode to see if "HE" can report a difference.....

I would love for my Mav to have a stance like yours. Can you share part numbers for the springs and specs on the "proper" alignment? I used to have a Colorado with the sport suspension and really enjoyed the way it would take a corner.
dont do what i did!
i have been in my truck 1 1/2 years now. when i lowered mine there were no springs available.
now Eibach makes a proper set. mine ride a bit to rough and one of the rears isnt "wound" correctly and i had to buy and replace additional parts. the alignment is basic "performance FWD", about 1/16" toe out front and about 1/4 degree negative camber. the rear is non adjustable and mine has a lot of toe in - that i cant adjust out. i do my alignments at home and have won sportscar racing championships with them. i also have the ability to corner balance cars but never planned to put the maverick on my scales. i couldnt easily change the balance anyway.....
looking at the tire wear after a pretty good torture test and that it performs well i'm happy with it.

I'm a bit confused... (Or maybe just dense...)
What was it that you did that we should NOT do?
don’t use what i did for springs. today eibach has better maverick specific option that was not available last year.

it really improved after i let him turn off traction control, but overall it was very well balanced. but the traction control had already smoked the front brakes, shopping new pads now....

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like you were way ahead of the game and came up with something that isn't quite "right". I'll just wait a bit longer and the aftermarket will surely come up with something better.

Wow, great job on the kid and the truck. Front wheel drive cars can really corner well. I found out in my 66 998 Mini Cooper that you keep the foot down into corners. And then off the gas some until straight. Not sure if the Maverick goes the same way. Of course, 250 HP vs 60-70 makes a difference on how you can power through corners.

According to the owners handbook turning off traction control does not turn off stability control that also uses the brakes, does the driver notice the stability control working?

Thanks for the information, as I'll probably won't get a chance to try my Maverick on a race track it's good to hear your reports.

Mine was merged with a Torino one night. I later had a 67 1275 s. Lost it to financial decrepitude. Could keep it and the family going. Rough times.

This is a cool thread! I hope someone comes up with a TCS defeat soon. My reasons are different though, I have a Tremor inbound and would like some rally action.

i knew it wouldnt completely disable it. he ran his best lap times for sure and reported it felt much quicker with it off. MSRH where we were, has one corner that i call "the never ending turn" that from past experience is where i'm sure it was doing the most work. its like almost a 240 degree turn and very long!

Grew up with the original Mini, the 'old' guys in the shop didn't want to work on this weird car with the engine in sideways - I got all the Mini work.
