Hi Guys,
We know that the side marker light DIY has always been a hot topic in the MTC light modification forum. And we've also been working on designing a side marker signal light that can meet your guys need. We have made a preliminary design. Now we need your advice to help us improve this design. Please make comments directly on the thread. Thanks a lot.

That looks cool! I’m more electrocuted than electrician so that is probably not for me.

I like the idea of side markers that illuminate with the turn signals or just illuminate. I took your stock image and did a small mockup of what I personally would like.

Where the orange bar would be the signal/running light.

This one is awesome. I would perform that mod for sure.

I like the both concepts as turn signals, but I would also really like a bright side light it could come in very handy offroad or in a variety of situations. Something that would cast decent light for 10ft or so atleast.

Also that biggest thing with making this light is that you should sell it as 100% DIY or also with a extensive wiring kit, with proper length properly terminated pigtails and connectors. Aswell as optional in cab switches with routing details. Kits like that could easily cost the as much as the light itself and be a deal for us(less headache) and excellent profit margin for you(after R&D).

我喜欢用转向灯照亮或只是照亮的侧标的想法。我拿了你的库存图片,做了一个我个人想要的小模型。

Great idea. Does the middle XLT mark need to be bright?

@MABETT I like the top… I’d also be interested in a mirror cap light that shines/illuminates to the front/side of the truck, such as the mirror cap lights do on the GMC higher-end Sierra 1500’s.

Literally the only time I see that in the automotive aftermarket is for accessories offered by an OEM.

A kit like the one you're describing, while not out of the realm of possibility, would have to be way more expensive. Whether there is a sustainable market for that is up to the supplier.

The challenge is that electrical items work or they don't...there's not a whole lot of product differentiation that is possible. And most consumers just want the darn thing installed and working. Better wiring or directions just adds cost.

A good example is aftermarket fog light kits for my Honda. The generic kits on eBay and Amazon run about $42. They have generic wiring harnesses with quick-splice connectors, zip ties to secure the harness in place, and a switch that fits in one of the switch blanks. The fog light bezels have over-mold flashing that needs to be trimmed off.

The Honda OEM accessory kit rang up at $364. It included a wiring harness that was literally OEM-grade. It was the exact length needed, wrapped in convoluted tubing that was then wrapped in non-adhesive vinyl tape. It even had anti-rattle foam at the connectors, and the proprietary push-clips to hang it already pre-installed at the right spots.

Instead of a generic switch, the Honda OEM accessory kit included a replacement headlight/turn signal stalk with the fog light switch. Combined with the harness, it activates the fog light indicator on the instrument cluster. Also the fog light bezels were perfect and ready to install right out of the box.

Also like the mirror-mounted spotter/alley lights on late model F-150s...probably one of my favorite OEM features.

The hurdle for mirror-mounted accessories is running wiring. The conduits from the body to the doors are usually pretty full, they have two 90-degree bends, and they aren't usually easily accessed at one end or both. Then there's the challenge of fishing wiring up to the mirror itself and removing the glass without breaking it or the adjustment motors.

It's probably why there aren't many mirror-mounted aftermarket accessories for any vehicle. Compare what I just mentioned to, say, adding ditch lights next to or on the hood, where most of the wiring is under the hood and the rest is easily fished through a hole in the firewall, and you can see why they are much more popular.
