Hey y’all, just got my 2023 Mav XL Hybrid in yesterday and loving it so far. Worked with a local auto shop to get the following after market products.

-1.5IN LIFT, HRG OFF-ROAD
-BF Goodrich 245/70R16 Tire, All-Terrain T/A K02
- Method Race Wheels MR707 Bead Grip Matte Black 16x7 MR70767049530

For all you car people, I have yet to see 16” wheels on a mav or honestly any trucks in general. So I ask yall, do y’all think it’ll look weird? Or look wonky? Lemme know what y’all think, I couldn’t imagine it looking that bad but I don’t know much about cars myself.
(Bellow is an attached picture of the 16” wheel on my truck, we were testing to see if the 16” would fit over the router)

Would be nice to see it with the tire
Yeah, not getting the build done until Monday, so they don’t have the tire on the wheel. Just put the wheel on to see if it would fit.

16 is a little small. I have 19's on my Lariet and wish they were bigger.

Sure they clear the rotors and calipers in all locations?

Tires will be limited in the 16” size

Sure they clear the rotors and calipers in all locations?

Tires will be limited in the 16” size

.
The shop said they will be good, if theirs an issue, than the shop will be at fault.

These are sweet wheels: Sport Tuning T9-2 $160 each. Look like Hot Wheels. I have a lot of other Mav only info on my channel that can help you.

Something to keep in mind, the wheel weighs little compared to the tire. I'm afraid you're going to have a very heavy 16" tire to fill that fender well.

A 235/70R16 would be slightly larger than stock and probably be a good fit for the fender well. Lots of manufacturers have that size listed but finding a set might be a bit challenging. Personally, I think 17's would be much easier to fit as well as find in the future.

Are you hell bent on 16's? Is it just what the shop is offering?

It’s what the shop recommended and they claim it’ll all be fine, you raise a good point about the weight, what would the side effects be?

I think the shop had some 16s they needed to get rid of. But in any case, make sure the overall tire height is close to stock for speedometer accuracy as well as design performance.

My money is on the shop had them sitting around and are trying to offload them. The 5x108 isn't a common pattern.

If the shop had your best interest in mind they wouldn't recommend 16's for several reasons:
  • First and foremost 14, 15 and 16 inch diameter tires are getting increasingly hard to find. Few people are buying them because almost no automotive manufacturer has made those size wheels in two decades. Tires are usually special order. Tire manufacturers are making less and less of them.
  • Tires in 17" diameter are FAR more plentiful and likely cheaper than its 16" counterpart.
To answer your other question, heavier wheel/tire combos add rolling resistance and unsprung weight. What that translates to is compromised fuel milage and longer braking distances IN THEORY. Every tire has its own characteristics and the difference between 16 and 17 would be negligible but likely measurable.

Consider this - you destroy a tire on a trip out of town. Would you prefer to go literally ANYWHERE and get a replacement or potentially wait for a special order tire to arrive?

I'd highly recommend you go with 17's. If the shop balks, walk. They're serving themselves, not you!
