Anyone know if there's a way to install the tailgate damper inside the tail light like you can on a f150?

Saw this randomly scrolling youtube and wondered if anyone knows if this would work or could be modified to work.

Installed today…it really isn’t too intrusive. But totally agree that the F-150 has the cleaner look, and is completely out of the way.

The F-150 location in the video is also somewhat functionally better, because it wouldn't be rubbing on the tailgate cable. Not sure how Ford missed that during testing of the vehicle.

I also wonder if it would be less prone to getting rusty. I've only had the damper since September and it's already got some rusty spots on the balls were the strut attaches (not on the parts that mount to the bed or the tailgate, on the strut itself).

following this with interest, so much better than the outside version. one thing sure is there will be no ball end to attach to behind the tail light. amazon has them in a variety of sizes with and without mounting brackets for cheap.
if I had my truck I'd order one just to check fit. got an inside man so returns are no problem

I hit the friction points with some grease to avoid the rusty bits. Definitely grab a replacement and chuck the bad balls.

Where did you source your replacement tie down piece?

Love the blackout idea!

I have the damper - but no Maverick yet - might just hit up the spray paint this weekend to give myself something to do while I wait.

Also, I used some black vinyl wrap on the back of the brackets to keep paints from bonding together. Or you can use electrical tape; I just prefer the matt-finish vinyl.

They have another nearly identical unit for the 21-23 F150 which shares the right tailgate hinge bracket with the Maverick. - Bracket lists both the Maverick & the 21-23 F150, as well as F150 Lightning under the applicable models tab.

Since they use the exact same part number for the right tailgate hinge bracket, there's a pretty good chance the hidden dampener for the 21-23 F150 might just work in the Maverick, IF that upper/inner bolt is present to attach the other end of the shock assembly, or there's someway to setup a ball-mount for it to attach to in there.
