Could you provide some pictures of where you see it?

I just went through a similar thing although no discernable smell.....while checking my CV boot I noticed transmission fluid all over the left side of the engine compartment to include suspension, half shaft and all over the start stop accumulator among other places. I tracked the leak to the highest point which was the transmission breather tube under the intake/battery area. I could see how it could easily get back towards the turbo downpipe area considering how far it had spread. This is a pretty dangerous fire hazard and while auto trans fluid doesn't typically have a rubber smell when burning it could easily be the cause of the smell.I went to the dealer about a rubber burning smell , they didnt see it or smell it . back at home , I found transmission fluid on top of the trans. It was the trans vent that was overflowing while hot. Back to the dealer , they found out that the trans had to much oil in it , they removed some and did a temp test . Since then no rubber burning smell. I supose the oil was hitting the firewall and the muffler after.
Ok thanks! i'am gone check if the smell came back next even on dry road. I can't see any sticker where there you say.I have had it do it on dryest of days we had a whole week of sun and it did it almost every day even before i drive it and its just sitting in my driveway so nothing got up in there. Ever since i pulled that foil sticker from factory it has not done it since. However i do believe the salt build up is having a chemical reaction between the metal sticker and the heat of the exhaust allowing the sticker to seperate and perhaps the adhesive is whats the cause of the burning smell. So far no smell since removing and its been weeks.
Are you still noticing the smell? I am also getting that smell, only when the engine is really hot, like after a long highway drive. I have had it to the dealer twice. Once they removed the sticker that others have mentioned. Didn't fix it. Then they found a rat's nest in the engine bay (!), but removing that still didn't fix it. If anyone has found the solution, I would love to hear it.i'am really sure it's something to close of the exhaust system or turbo. there where is really hot.
Do you still have the burning rubber smell or did you find the problem?Still smelling it unfortunatly. It even does it before i drive. Remote start or key start just letting it warm up for a bit before taking off. Then ill go a week and nothing then its back. I have tried every possible process of elimination to see if i can find a common cause and nothing. Dealership was no help.
Two years andStill there and bad. Totally frustrated that the dealership cant figure it out. Only here in the winter when its snow covered roads. Got sick of fighting to have it fixed and am at terms that it just does it and that is that. Talked to a few locals with same year and model as me. 2 of the 4 of them have the same issue. The other two never had a problem with it. They have brought theirs to other dealerships and same response, cant find out what it is or cant get it to replicate on demand when the date of their visit happens to be.
I am sorry to here about your burnt rubber smell. I don't have that problem but my daughter asked to borrow my truck and spilled something that smelled like vinegar. After a couple cleaning attempts using hot water and cleaning product then carpet cleaner and then baking soda along with a air freshener. I vacuumed all the powder up and reinstalled the floor mats after hosing and scrubbing. The smell is finally under control.I have 14,000 miles on my truck and have had a hell of a time locating the source of a hot burning rubber smell that comes and goes. I have process of eliminated anything interrior, not heated seats or stearing wheel and its not linked to the blower motor or heat AC system. My first thought was water getting in and hitting my belt. but elimated that after it has done so on the dryest of days and even before its driven for anything like that to hit the belt. I have sent it in to get looked at and after a day they found nothing. It started around the start of winter, does it often when using remote starting app, but has also done it manual start. They also couldnt get the smell to happen today in the shop. I have read that some mavericks have an extra heating element that provide quick heat to the cab when the motor is cold instead of having to wait for the truck to warm up to get heat. Anyone know if the XLT eco boost motor has this element? and if so maybe this is causing the nasty burning rubber smell? It kind of makes sense why it started when the cold came, and why now that the vehicles is warmed up, they cant get it to do it in the shop. I assume this extra system if this truck has it, wont operate when the motor is warm, hence why sometimes i smell it and sometimes i do not.
