Really appreciate you starting this thread and all the ongoing information Redneck Garage!

I bought a flip fob for my XL, but the local locksmith was reluctant to cut it. He said the original has a slightly narrower groove than he has a cutter for. He would do it, but wasn't confident on the outcome. Any thoughts?
Same issue I had today... they were about to cut it and noticed the groove was much thinner than their router bit would make. No go.

I want to say 6 but I know 4 for sure.
Well I just learned it's 4. I paired two extras but they had battery issues so I had to return. Got two new ones and attempted to pair but got the message saying I'm at the limit.

You mentioned previously that a programmer can be used to forget keys, does that mean I need to go to the dealer to have them remove the returned two so I can pair my new ones?

There has been many questions on the keys for our beloved trucks and as a locksmith I can say if you lose all your keys you will more than likely have to tow it back to the dealer until our software is updated. HOWEVER I have confirmed on board programming works if you have the original two keys ( two programmed keys ) - you can program them yourself - that has been mentioned here before. Do this NOW !!! before you loose one of the two keys LOL.

On the XL or XLT trucks you can either add a flip remote or just a standard key ( possibly you might want to add two cheaper keys as a backup ) On the Lariat only the fob will work however the emergency key is not required. I thought I would put links to which keys to purchase and you can take them to a local locksmith just to have cut - as long as you maintain two extra you are in good shape adding in the future.

XL and XLT Keys - I have posted multiple links in case one is out of stock -
Remote headed Keys - $23.99-https://amzn.to/40xtAk7 or $29.95 https://amzn.to/3RpQJAH or $23.99 https://amzn.to/3WVGxAX

If yours has a remote start it would be this key - 49.99- https://amzn.to/3wNgDVG 89.95 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/3jsaBq7 45.29 - https://amzn.to/3WUcmdl

Plastic Headed Keys -
16.95 for 2 - https://amzn.to/3HNZe5h 43.21 Ford Factory Blank ( same Chip ) https://amzn.to/3jklzOD If you are wanting to do a "hide-a-key" this one is the one to use due to it being waterproof.

To program you insert the existing first key, turn on ignition, count to three, take out put in existing second key turn on ignition - count to three - take new third key - turn on ignition - leave on - you should hear a chirp and a message key was successful.

For the Lariat -
58.95 - https://amzn.to/3XT89b7 109.95 - 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/40m014U 37.95 - https://amzn.to/3XaDs0h For the Fob to work / be programmed it doesn't matter if the key is cut or not - it only opens the door if the battery is completely dead.

prox.jpg

If your Fob does not have remote start for the 2023 Lariat it is this one - 38.99 - https://amzn.to/40ihWsZ

nostart_.jpg

To program - open center console. Pull up felt cover - place first existing fob in depression - push start button ( without foot on brake ) ignition comes on- count to 5 - remove fob - push ignition off - put second existing fob in depression - push ignition on - count to five - remove fob - push ignition off. take new fob - put in depression push AND HOLD start button down - you should hear chirp and message - key programming successful.

All in all pretty simple procedures and a few dollars and effort now can save you hundreds later !
hi. I have 22 xlt. I programed the one in the right and it turns the car on and off. But the doors dont open or close the ones on the left are the original ones . Is the one on the right has a different frequency ? Or do i need to program it different ?

I have a 2023 XLT Lux that uses that uses the FOB with flip key for ignition start (no remote FOB start capability). So I need a functional key to program #3 remote.

I bought an extra remote to have key #3 cut and went to the local locksmith.
He also said he does not have the codes yet to be able to cut a key that will work.
He tried two times with his own stock key, they did not work.

I share my experience with other 2023 owners that we may have a wait until they get their codes.
David, are you cutting 2023 keys if I wanted to go that route? As I read though the posts, last I saw you did not have the software update yet?

Same issue I had today... they were about to cut it and noticed the groove was much thinner than their router bit would make. No go.
Third locksmith I visited had the narrow bit and was able to cut it. Programmed no problem with Redneck Garage's instructions (y).

Cheers.

A code is not needed to cut the key...

So the two locksmith I used had issues also. One couldn’t do it, something about codes. The second had to tell his machine (Chinese machine) what key it was. He called Supoort and they told him to put this key in. Once he did that it cut the key. Programmed without issue

Help, I have an XLT and I bought the plastic head key, I had it cut to match the other keys, I've tried every combination and still can't get it to work.
When I insert the second key the screen shows me the key code, I wait for the code bar to finish and insert the third non programed key in and I get a message that says "key program failed"
Any help would be appreciated.
